    CZ stock repair

Re: checkering Not really. The biggest problem may be getting the old finish off. I have never dealt with a CZ stock so I may have to experiment with strippers for whatever finish CZ uses. Can't be harder than a Browning glossy finish (I hope!). The sticky on oil finishes started by Dfariswheel...

A complete re-do seems to be the consensus. Thanks for the guidance. Now if I can just find some .22 mag ammo .....

    CZ stock repair

Roger, I think some of the posters on RFC agree with you. On inspection I can see that the finish doesn't have the depth that others do, including some of my amateur refinish jobs. Also probably easier to hide the repair and not risk going to a lot of work and still not have it look right. Thanks.

    CZ stock repair

Excellent suggestion Thanks. I often forget how much good info there is over on RFC. I will definitely check it out. I suspect the issue will be trying to get the stain to match without the existing finish preventing penetration and then finding whatever repair finish is compatible with the...

    CZ stock repair

Found a good deal on a CZ 452 American, mainly because the previous owner had dropped the rifle on the toe of the stock with the expected loss of a 2-inch long wedge from the stock. The home repair was not done well and I will cut the repair out and splice in a new piece of walnut selected to...

Black Walnut Aging for Grips, Stocks, Etc.

Paint the ends with any latex paint you have around and let it dry out slowly until you decide what to do with it. Rapid drying will cause checks and warping.

To shoot or not too shoot?

Ditto on the friction ring adjustment. If your A5 kicks too hard, it is not set up properly. The Browning website (and many others) will have diagrams and instructions.

    The A5 returneth??

If your A-5 is pounding you, check the set up on the friction rings. You may be surprised...

    Ammunition to Go Info Needed

Some time ago they were just a small internet/mail order operation with little or no provision for over-the-counter retail sales. I would stop in and even though I was probably interrupting someone's work, they would escort me to the shipping room, let me pick out what I wanted and then have one...

    High Fences

Art, If I remember my Texas history, I believe Texas offered the U.S. government substantial amounts of state land if the U.S. would pay off Texas' significant debt when it joined the Union. The U.S. declined which left Texas no alternative but to divest the property on its own. Given the oil...

    ammunition to go

Good people and easy to deal with. Can't comment on the shipping issues. I have always just stopped by and purchased over the counter when I am in the neighborhood. Good prices and availability. My go-to source for 6.5 x55 Swedish Mauser.

    Do you own a bolt-action or single 6.5x55SE ?

I have a Remington Model 700 Classic in 6.5 X 55 Swedish and really like it. Recoil is light enough that even my daughter has no problem with it, even at the range after a number of rounds. For the hunting in Central Texas at least, it is just about perfect.
