This is the same as the car companies bringing back the muscle cars from the 60s and 70s. Looks vaguely similar on the outside but very different on the inside.

They can call it anything thet want. It is not an A5. Should call it an A5A1. Haven't looked at the mechanism yet. Sounds like an engineered improvement on the long recoil system. Don't know. Unimpressed with the marketing. Could be a very good gun.

Cheers,

ts

wrong! It is an A5, the original was tagged Auto-5. The new gun is like comparing a Porsche Carrera to a Model A. Nothing like the original at all, thank goodness. It's an inertia gun, unlike the direct recoil design of the old Auto-5. Firing an original was like hoisting a piece of field artillery to your shoulder. Time for the Smithsonian.

Can't wait to get my hands on a new one!

I've not seen any on the shelf yet, and a quick search of Gunbroker doesn't show any for sale.

Com on UNC, I still have my Browning ''AUto-5'' from 1968. I have fond memories of getting the crap pounded out of me with that gun...lol. Every so often I take the ole girl out and shoot a couple rounds of 5 stand with her.
I just can't bring myself to sell it.

You think an Auto-5 pounds you?
Try a Benelli.

I bought a M1 Super-90 to replace my old Auto-5 as my turkey gun.
It was brutal compared to the Auto-5!

I sold it and went back to my old Browning.

If your A-5 is pounding you, check the set up on the friction rings. You may be surprised...

In all fairness - my Benelli Vinci is a full pound lighter than my walkabout Auto5. That's gonna have some impact, no pun intended, on its recoil characteristics; the Benelli is surely a bit snappier. But then again, I never understood why folk thought the Auto5 was a beating; I have always found them to be a lot softer shooting than any fixed breech (including my 870s and Citoris) of equal weight and fitment. I suppose that if it doesn't fit you, then it's gonna smack you no matter who made it or how its action is designed..

The appeal of a more modern semiauto like the new A5 or a Benelli over a traditional Auto5 would include the ability to switch loads without having to partially disassemble the gun and get all greasy changing the friction rings. Well, that and a pound less weight to carry around in the field.. :)

Back in the day before I knew the existance of gas guns, I never really minded shooting me auto-5. I really never thought they unpleasant to shoot. I love the humpback design.
They really are a well made gun. If you get just the right mix of oil on them, they aren't really bad to shoot with target loads.

I've failed to understand why in the world Browning discontinued the A5 in the first place IMO it's the most iconic semi-auto shotgun of all time and a flagship model for Browning. Also why try and improve something that's already proven and venerable like the A5 I'm no expert but I honestly don't know how one could drasticly improve one whithout designing a new shotgun all together. All in all while it isn't quite the same as my Grandads A5 I'm glad to see them to atempt and revive a cool old shotgun like the A5 I'll bet they sell a ton of them regardless of peoples dissaproval or difference in taste.
