A scenario that has me thinking...

I guess my problem is that, from the comfort of our computer keyboards, we have time to think, discuss and pontificate about this scenario. Of coruse, avoidance is my main motto, but I am addressing the OP. I have already assumed that out in the real world, I'd have no real time to weigh...

Worst "oops" you made with a firearm?

Not with a gun but with ammo....This was years ago when you could go through security (metal detectors, etc.) and meet passengers right at the gate. I had been at a range the morning I was to pick up my wife at the airport. At the end of the session I had a few rounds left on the ammo box and...

Remington Home Defense shell duplex shot

Folks, In the Jan. 2010 issue of American Rifleman, a new home defense 12 ga shell is described. It is a Remington product, and it comes with a duplex mixture of both #2 and #4 shot in the same shell. I am not sure I understand the rationale behind putting two shot sizes in the same...

Ammo Shortage merged threads, aka UberUltraMasterAmmoThreadOfPower

Interesting sticker on WalMart box of ammo My local Walmart sporting goods clerk tells me that as soon as ammo comes in, it is sold out immediately. Luckily, I was able to buy a box of 9mm and saw new stickers on the box that said something like "if this prodict is found for sale at a location...

This is not an anti walmart thread just a question about something going on

In eastern Kentucky never been asked any questions when purchasing 38, 9mm or 45. Maybe since all of these are usually handgun rounds they don't ask rifle of handgun as in a previous reply?

Post your firearm related injuries here!

Blisters from 38 +p rounds (new grip after that) and, hate to say it, scope eyebrow. Duh. KK

University professor and research scientist here. Happy to report that some of my colleagues are also 2A supporters. Carry almost all of the time, except when on campus. Then I carry a 20 oz can of bear pepper spray.

single shot 12 ga for home defense?

Don't forget that the shot size is important - I use a side by side 20 ga for home defense (although I have many other firearms). I practice rapid reloading and have five additional shells on the butt. Its loaded with #2 buck, copper plated, 3" magnums. The same gun with #8 birdshot is "for...

    Rapid Cognition/Thin Slicing and S&T

A fantastic post! I truly admire the scholarly thoughts behind the comments and question. It seems to me that one needs to be keenly observant in order to be rapidly cognizant of impending trouble. Such situational awareness can’t be learned in a class nor from a book, but from life’s...

Pirates Beware: Soon Rifles That Kill from a Mile Away (TIME magazine article)

I bet that they are trying to couple facial recognition technology with nanoscale guidance technology, or something similar. The brilliant folks who do DARPA-funded work are truly remarkable. KK

What is your favorite CCW gun

38 SW snubbie in Desantis Nemesis. In my humble opinion (and I am not an expert but own a 9mm, 45, 380, and the 38) the SW snubbie is the best compromise between smallest "print" and caliber. Loaded with Speer GDHP for short barrels. I honestly am not able to carry the 45 (Kimber Pro CDP)...

Had to draw my weapon last night...

I learn a lot from THR and this post has been very informational and has given me another parameter to add my "situational awarness list" of things to look out for. The thought that two seemingly unrelated individuals can use their cell phones to coordinate an attack is very eye-opening. You...
