I have a single shot rifle that does not like the hard primers of factory steel cased ammo. I might get 3 misfires out of five shots. I have brass, primers, and powder but, I am low on projectiles.
Hey all. I pulled a bunch of herters 7.62x39 bullets to reload in brass. I kept the powder and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to reload it or dump it. I have no idea what kind of powder it is or how many grains were used. Whats the general feeling about using unknown powder?
I got good results(accuracy) with 4.6gr with plated 124gr bullets @ 1.10 oal. I got better results with 4.8gr, same bullet and oal.
Everything ran fine with the 4.6, but I feel it was a bit on the light side. I feel that 4.8 - 5.0 would be near perfect for plated 124gr loads.
Well, I tried a small batch. It was a complete waste of time. Just like rc said. It took a long time cleaning out the cavity. Goop still on them. A mineral spirit bath is in order. Thanks guys!!
I have a bunch of this 93 ofv ammo that I plan on reloading without firing it first. So, I pulled quite a few bullets and there is tar on the inside of the neck. The brass looks like its in great shape.
My fear is if I dont clean the tar off it will gum the resizing die, and gum up the rifle...
