I have a bunch of this 93 ofv ammo that I plan on reloading without firing it first. So, I pulled quite a few bullets and there is tar on the inside of the neck. The brass looks like its in great shape.
My fear is if I dont clean the tar off it will gum the resizing die, and gum up the rifle chamber after firing. Has any one took the time to clean the tar off? What method did you use? I soaked a few cases in paint thinner, which did the trick, but it was messy. Just looking for ideas. Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum...

I'm guessing that tar is for a sealant. I agree with you, if you don't clean it off it will probably foul your dies. Paint thinner should clean it off or turpentine might be even better since it's stronger.

A little TURP on a wire bore brush chucked in my battery drill then repeat with a bore mop that is old and worn out. That took care of it for me. I tried it dry but the turpentine did it faster although a bit dirtier process. I reused the bullets in my Mosin as well and soaked them in TURP over night and just wiped the tar off after.

Also a big welcome to THR.
