Actually most manufacturers don't make the 1911A1, but a hybrid. Generally, modern 1911 pistols have the flat mainspring housing and long trigger of the original 1911, but retain the cut-outs behind the trigger of the 1911A1. Beavertail grip safeties, full length guide rods, and firing pin...
I don't know. I'd rather just conceal them somewhere. After all, a safe will only pique a criminal's curiosity. (I too am a not-so-proud owner of a Sentry)
Excellent point. These books by J.B. Wood are extremely helpful:

I don't care what anyone says, the Beretta 92 is a great pistol. I hope you enjoy it.
Sights:
The rear sight is dovetailed so it can be removed. This can be a labor though unless you invest in a sight pusher (Beretta sells one, 92 specific, for $100 ). If you don't want to buy that...
I guess this time frame safety advocates will be choosing Beretta, and that's just strange...
No doubt the finish will be much nicer than 'bruniton' though. The bluing on my last HP was superb.
An average gain of 26 fps isn't very much at all and plenty of .45s are already plenty accurate out of the box, so could it really have been worth the effort?
Not trying to be contentious, just asking.
