A .30-30 is a great round in the woods. If you are shooting in open lands out west a .308 would be better. Look at used Marlins. Usually a bunch around and better quality then Marlingtons.

I forgot to list what i have...all Rugers... P-89 decock model ($300 gently used) 22/45 slabside ($250 new) LCP ($275 new) None broke the bank, all shoot lefty without a problem.

I shoot pistols lefty and I have 3 that I shoot without trouble. The LCP is very small and concealable. The SR9c is a great gun, large enough for range shooting, but pretty easy to carry.
