I've had this amazing rifle for a long time, and love it. Possibly the most accurate factory rifle ever produced & this one is in top condition. Lately however I've been thinking about a new $$$$ project to fill a different hole in the collection & have been considering selling the Sako (rifle only) to fund it. I know these are very rare, but I have no idea what they're worth. It is a repeater, I see many of these were produced as single shot. Any ideas?

Ed Matunas of Lyman Reloading Manual Fame once wrote an article reviewing the Sako in 6 PPC, and stated that with Sako Factory Ammo (Made by Lapua) he was getting 10 shot groups under 1/4" at 100 yards, and that it was the most accurate factory rifle he had ever shot.

If I had one I would not sell it for all the tea in China.

Just my .02,

I've personally shot a 50 round benchrest aggregate at 0.5 MOA with it. It is amazing. I've enjoyed it for over a decade though, so if it's worth what I suspect it may be worth, maybe it's someone else's turn..? Still just a thought exercise at this point.

I may be wrong but when Sako quit marketing the 6 PPC and 22 PPC chamberings the rifles were selling for around $1,500. Ruger also chambered the 6 PPC during the early 90s but the Ruger guns couldn't touch those Sako rifles. The few I have seen for sale were in the $1,500 range. Your rifle is likely well worth what someone is willing to pay and that could well exceed $1,500.

As to Lapua and the 6 PPC? I do not believe Lapua ever manufactured 6 PPC ammunition or even the brass. All of my 6 PPC Lapua brass was fireformed using 220 Russian Lapua brass. Norma did make 6 PPC brass and ammunition.

Anyway, one very, very sweet rifle. Do you know how Sako cut the neck diameters?

Lapua brass product line.

Thanks Ron, I think you're speaking the truth.

It's the 6PPC-USA chambering that has a .268" neck. I don't have to cut my Sako brass, or an older lot of Lapua 220 Russian, but a few years back I did get a lot of 220 Russian that I did have to neck turn to get them to chamber.

If still they're usable, including ready-to-load cases (and dies) would sweeten the deal and/or entice some lookers who wouldn't otherwise consider it. Just sayin' ;)

Most welcome, I would have expected more people to jump into this thread? I know we have some 6 PPC guys. Anyway, I would guess around $1,500 and up on the rifle assuming good bore and condition.

Real good point MrBorland:

are you selling it with the glass?

Bare rifle, I think you could get $1,400 minimum, perhaps $1,600 with the right buyer. These estimates are based on an Internet search of various websites.

The glass I would keep for the next project. It'd be perfect for it. I'd send the Optilock rings with the rifle, though. Of course I have dies, brass, load development etc. but I may keep that (at least the dies) in case I screw a PPC barrel on my Savage target action. That said, everything is for sale for the right price. :)

Bore / crown / everything is in excellent condition. The number I had in my head is around $1600 for the right buyer, so thanks guys for helping back that up for me.

I went ahead & listed it on GB. We'll see what happens! I think it's just a matter of the right buyer seeing it, someone who felt like I felt the day I saw it for sale.

If I had one I would not sell it for all the tea in China.

There is always a price.

FWIW China tea exports were $1.3 billion in 2014.

The rifle without glass would be in the $1500 range +\-.

No telling on gun broker, you will either get no action or it will sell for more than it's worth.

Yes, there is always a price. I stated the bidding at $1650 including the Optilock rings & bases, which aren't cheap. The way I see it if I can sell it for enough to entirely fund the new project then I'm in.

It's not the having, it's the getting. :)

Wanted to follow up for posterity, the gun sold on GB with the Sako rings & 100pcs. brass for $1750. It's been a great ride, now time for the next project!
