I got my new gun, rings and scope. Bench mount and spotting scope as well as a bunch of other really great stuff. I want to see what the folks who have been at this have done. Then I want to see if I can match it. If you would, post a pic of your favorite target and rig. Data on the rig, load, day and anything of interest would be much appreciated. I've got 6, no, make that 7 "Attaboys" for the winner.

Maybe tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll get some pictures of a few of my target rifles I enjoy. I really do not have a favorite. I do have a picture of my AR 10 target rifle with the Centra sights in place.

The barrel is a custom match and this rifle is now about 20 years old. Again, as to a favorite? Really no one rifle. Anymore, being retired and older I just shoot for whatever mood strikes me. When I spend a day at the range it is typically a full day and I bring along a few target rifles and a few rimfire guns. My spotting scope is an old Kowa which works fine. While I don't generally save targets I do have a few from my .308 Win bolt gun, maybe tomorrow I'll get some pictures.

Savage Model 12, SSS LVT stock, pillar bedded, Lothar Walther 28" barrel, .243 Winchester 8" twist, this shows it with a 6.5-20 Weaver Grand Slam scope but I have since replaced that with an 8-32 Weaver Classic Extreme.

I shoot the Berger 68 gr. up to 300 yards, and either Berger 95 gr. VLD's or 107 gr. SMK's for longer ranges, all loaded in Lapua brass. It's nothing to brag about but it shoots pretty well and costs very little.

Remington 700 223 Ackley Improved
US Optics Sn3 Tpal 3.2x17

Lapua 223 brass, Hornady 75&80gr Amaxes, Varget, Rem 7 1/2 3000+fps

Shoots in the .1's on great days and .2 - .3's on others.

These are all 5 shot groups at 100yds.

This rifle is a hammer and it's really fun to shoot.

What bipod is on the 223AI?
Those appear to my untrained eye to be the safety legs off of an older case backhoe. Of course for this purpose they have been machined for weight savings.

Seriously though, that was my first thought. Second though was I bet that joker is steady as a backhoe is too.

Flier or not, for this rifle and platform, impressive!

Leaves the 22" M1A barrel at a stout 2600 FPS.

I have a few I like.

First up: Not really a dedicated target rifle, but accurate and fun to shoot - my Tikka CTR in .260 Remington...

Best group to date...

...and it's good for making keyring fobs at 100 yards...

Next up....260 Remington Borden Alpine in a McMillan stock with 26" Brux barrel and Jewel trigger topped with a Vortex PST...

Unfortunately, my rifle range closed shortly after I picked it up, so I have no targets to show. Hopefully, I'll sort this situation out soon, and find this is my new favorite.

Finally, my AR15 Service Rifle: An A2 with a Geissele NM trigger and 20" Kreiger-equipped upper built by Keystone Accuracy. My go-to load is 24.0gr RL-15 over a 77gr SMK in LC brass. Shoots well, but would do better in the hands of someone with younger eyes.

Although I've not been doing this very long (either precision shooting or reloading) but I've managed to have some good success, thanks in large part to the mentoring and feedback I get from the folks here at THR.

Here's my rig and my best 100 and 200 yard 5 shot groups, both under 1/2 MOA

FN SPR A4 .308, leupold MK4 LRT 4.5-14x50, Atlas bipod and M1907 sling. Load is 168g AMAX, 39.5g H4895, Fed case, fed 210 primer, OAL to the lands

AI AWM .338 Lapua Mag with a Premier Reticles 5-25x50mm scope and AAC TiTAN suppressor. Load is a 250gr Lapua Scenar bullet in Lapua brass with a GM215M primer and H1000 powder. Best five-shot group so far is just over 1.5" at 400 yards.

AI AW .308Win/6.5 Creedmoor with a Nightforce 3-15x50mm scope and either an AAC MK13 or DAA SANDMAN-L suppressor. Most premium factory match our hunting ammunition shoots around 0.5 moa from the .308 barrel. Hornady 140gr A-MAX ammunition is around 0.5 moa or better in the 6.5 barrel. 6.5 handloads consist of 140gr A-MAX bullets, Hornady brass, GM210M primers and Reloder 17 powder.

Eventually I'll get around to doing something with the AW AWM in .300 Win Mag.

Well my Tikka CTR has proven to be my most accurate rifle, but I think my new Ruger Precision Rifle will give it a run for its money once I get an optimal load worked out.

Here's the Tikka though, sorry about the cell phone pics.

And a few of my better targets.

Well I thought seeing you folks at work would, pardon this but, give me something to shoot for. I'm not sure but I might want to sell my new gear and take up pumk'n carving. Nice work guys! Hope to post something similar soon! Oh, and Thanks!

Just keep shooting! Nothing better than finding that magical combo of gear and load and target

Patience and remember good things come to those who wait. :)

Wow, the history that goes with that black powder gun is very cool Plastikosmd.

It really puts it in perspective that one is just most current the caretaker of an old gun like that and has a responsibility to it.
