Thoughts on the Taurus PT111 G2.

Try reading some reviews over at taurusarmed.com The folks there generally seem to like them, but they also share some questionable or even negative reviews. Like here they are pretty open and honest.

As for the gun itself, I can't really speak to it. I'm not a huge fan of polymer, but I would like to see something similar in a lightweight alloy frame.

My PT111 G2 is a great gun. Feeds everything 100%, and I seem to be able to shoot it pretty well. I'm approaching 1000 rounds now and it will almost certainly be my EDC gun. I have a lot of 9mm pistols, and while it's not my favorite, it's in the top 3, behind my Tanfoglio "Mossad", and my Astra A-75.

I bought one because it was so inexpensive but the reviews where all good.

Read the usual complaints of the trigger but most don't really understand the trigger system of the G2. The G2 is "Glockish" only in the presence of the trigger lever safety. The pistol is NOT a Glock style Safe Action. It is in fact a single action pin fired pistol with DA 2nd strike capability only as there is no DA mode when the chamber is loaded unless the round fails to fire with the first single action strike of the firing pin. At the end of its long trigger travel is a simple single action release of the firing pin thus the manual safety performs the same safe function as in other single action pistols esp. those without a decocking method. When a round is chambered the firing mechanism is fully cocked so use of the manual safety is advised at that point. Trigger reset is short as the normal semi automatic action re-cocks the firing mechanism and a bit longer if one must use the 2nd strike capability on a misfired round.

I simply cannot understand how the same guns can run so perfectly with so many rounds, while the same gun with so many other people are giving so many problems.
If you take my Taurus, PT709, is was found to be bassically the best out of 10 other pocket pistols tested by Guns and Ammo. All others, except for one, did gaive failures. They shot more than 600 rounds with the PT709 with zero failures, and no cleaning or oiling. So why do so many people experience so mane failure to feed problems then?
I do, I can clean and oil it, not shoot is for three months then I get failure to feed problems with the first magazine...

I will not buy another pistol if there are a lot of negative reviews about it. I only concentrated on the many positive reviews out there, completely ignoring the negative reviews. Thinking its a maintenance or user error. What a mistake that was.
If I can do it all over I would rather buy a G43 over my Taurus PT709 next time. There are MUCH less negative reviews abot the G43 and that must say something..

Ive had mine for around 6 months and have put well over 1000 rounds through it with no gun related problems besides rear sights screw coming loose. I have had jams useing the mecgar 20 rnd p226 magazines but those quit when I started using the SW sleeve mentioned earlier. I feel it's the perfect size and weight for concealed carry, very quick to draw and get on target with 12 round being a decent compromise. Will say that the pt111 gen before this was prone to limp wristing, would jam every other mag with my wife but never on me. Figured out her grip was to weak and problem disappeared as long as she remembers to hold on tight. Suspect this version would to if not held tight enough

I carry the R9 because it's so small and light, but when its raining I get worried that it might get a spot of rust before I can get home to oil it.

For daily use, I find myself more and more attracted to cheap guns that work, even if they're "just OK"
Mine (Stealth version) has got holster wear and it doesn't bother me one bit, and I'm usually OCD about such things. I bought the thing to carry not to display and some finish wear is unavoidable. If I wanted to turn it into a display piece after carrying it for awhile it's not going to cost that much to have it refinished. As far as rust goes the thing is stainless steel, doesn't mean it's can't rust but it's not going to from a little rain. Just remember to wipe it down once in awhile.

Actually I wax it.

I use Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax for the exterior of my gun's slide. Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax is fairly oily, it also is PH neutral and has no abrasives in it.

I use silicone cloths myself.
