I had read some reviews online (Hickok45, Mr Guns and Gear) and they both said the PT111 is a great buy.

I was perusing Armslist and found a seller selling an unfired NIB PT111 G2 and 100 rounds of 9mm ammo for $280. I was able to negotiate the price of the gun and ammo down to $250 so I bough it.

Took the pistol to the range yesterday and I must say for the money spent, I am pretty impressed. I own two Taurus revolvers and like them, but have always read Taurus semi-autos are sub-par. The gun has really good fit and finish and comes with two quality mags. I put probably ~100 rounds through the PT111 and it experienced one FTE. The gun still had factory grease and had never been fired so I attributed the single FTE to breaking in and whatever factory lube.

The trigger is decent and has a lot of take up in single action, but after a few mags I was able to hit my target pretty well at 7 yards. The reset is really short and the pistol does have second strike capability.

After the range session I cleaned and lubed the gun. The gun breaks down just like a Glock. There were no tool marks on the inside of the slide so it appears that attention to detail was paid.

About the only real negative I could find is the manual safety, but some people like a manual safety. The pistol also DOES NOT have a magazine disconnect which I really like.

Apparently the PT111 can use Sig Sauer P226/P229 mags. I own a P226 and the mags did indeed fit and hold the bolt open, I did not find this out until after my range session.

All in all, for what little I spent on the pistol it certainly appears to be a really high value firearm. Hopefully Taurus keeps making quality firearms at a good price, we as gun owners will benefit.

FYI: For people looking to buy 12 round mags, Academy has them for $26.99 with free shipping. The PT111 Pro and G2 use the same mag according to Taurus website.

Thanks for the detailed review. I have loaded 9 mm for friends, but I don't have a 9 mm pistol of my own. The Taurus pistol looked good, but I had also heard about its reputation and so was uncertain.

Nice review. And I didn't know that it could share mags with the SIG guns. Great bit of info there. Thanks!

I've been carrying the third incarnation of the PT-111 Millennium Pro for years.

And despite its alleged "safety defect" (which the G2 cures), I'm very happy with it.

There's a good reason you're impressed with your Taurus Millennium G2 in 9mm...it's a darned good pistol. And then, when you consider that they go new anywhere from 200 to 300 bucks, it's hard for many other guns to compete, in terms of quality for the dollar. I believe they were at the top of gunbrokers "top selling" list longer than most other guns.

No real problems to report for most people, but a few have had the triggers break or malfunction. Mine's been perfect, and that's the most common experience for most. It will be interesting to see how they hold up when round counts get real high - 10,000 to 20,000 rounds. They may not have Glock longevity when you get to that many rounds, but they're meant for cc, and in that sense, they're real reliable. And accurate.

I've got no real complaints with mine. The trigger breaks pretty far back but I can live with it. Other than that I don't like the plastic sights but I'm sure aftermarket options will be available eventually and for $200 its a corner I don't mind them cutting.

If you watch slickguns.com or sign up for Palmetto State Armories E mail alerts you can catch the deals. Of course doing these things can also be detrimental to ones wallet.

I like my PT 111 G2. I consider it a huge bargain.

Note to my own self...

I bought one a short while ago, and have no complaints. Taurus seems to have stepped up their game considerably in the last few years.

I realize we are talking about the PT-111 G2 here, but Guns and Ammo did a test of most of the popular subcompact pistols on the market, and the Taurus 708 single-stack was one of only three pistols that made it past 1000 rounds without a stoppage.

I hope this carries over to the 111 G2.

Once again out of stock rather quickly.

I'm not entirely sure why it's hard to find a broad selection of Taurus pistols online. Might be their lower prices, or could be a supply problem. I believe $190 is about as low as I've seen the Mil Pro G2 in 9mm go for. I saw one outfit selling them for $199 the other day, but I passed - I'm too poor to make redundant purchases. :)

The reason I say the availability problem could be on the supply end rather than the demand is because the ever popular PT 111 G2 always seems to be in stock somewhere...maybe not at these incredibly low prices, but it seems available. OTOH, I haven't seen the much less popular PT 809 (which I also have...and it's also a real good gun) anywhere for the last several months.

Fondled mine for a few minutes yesterday when I opened the safe to fondle my 629-----haven't shot it in a while but its still a keeper at this point of the relationship----a very good cheap gun.

No these do not last long at those prices but they seem to come up regularly. I have seen it off and on at PSA for the last couple of months at the $199 price. I have one and I like it so far. The sights are not the best and mine does shoot to the left and low a bit but I have not had enough time at the range with it yet so I will see next time if I can get them more dialed in.

I was having some problems with mine. Added the steel guide rod an springs fromm Lakeland. It has run a flawless 200 rounds since then. Oh, and it really likes the Perfect I picked up at Wally World,

I think it is Perfecta. Tan box. Just under $10. Combination of both bad typing and auto-correct.

Its good that it cycles cheap practice ammo.

One test for me is that a gun must cycle at least one top performing SD ammo - like Winchester Ranger "T" Series, HST or Gold Dot - or some of the others that produce somewhere around 14" of penetration and .60+ inches of expansion.

I really haven't heard much of peoples experience with these Taurus PT111 G2 pistols shooting premium SD ammo.

I shot a bunch of SD type ammo in my 111 G2 a few days ago. It ate it up without any issues. Some of that stuff was from back when I had hair! Even some of it that was green was fine. I'm really impressed with it, regardless of price
