Casting Lead is scarce around these parts - where can I git me some?

Yeap, the boot is where we stash the shine here in the backwoods of eastern Nauf Car o lina.

Quick follow up. If you do find an interest in WW from me, please know that They are all in some form of ingot. The 1lb are what a lot of folks like but if you want a larger ingot just let me know. Just send me back what ever the postage is on the stuff. I wanted to start casting with copper. Not for a lack of the stuff but talk about starting a new hobby!

I belong to a local gun club and we have an indoor range. Myself and a crew of another seven spent an entire morning cleaning out the area behind the targets of the indoor range. Bullets ricochet into a collecting area. We had 25 buckets of lead. I'm not sure what we do with them but you may want to check any place that has an indoor range.

I used to get Pb from scrapyards 20 years ago, but I took a long break from casting and when I resumed I discovered none within driving distance will sell it to the public anymore.

If I knew then what I know now I would have filled my garage with wheelweights 20 years ago.

Cannonman!!!

Your thoughtful and generous gift of lead ingots arrived this morning. I am ready to start trying my hand at bullet casting. I’ve been going to Cast Boolits to pick up on some more tips to add to the really important ones that you already gave to me.I have to leave for Florida in a few days and as soon as I get back home I’ll git to it.

I hope I don’t embarrass you, but you gave me push to get started in this hobby and you wouldn’t even accept the postage for sending the lead! We all should take this page out of your paying-it-forward book to helping a newbie getting started.

Cannonman requested that I make a donation to the NRA in lieu of sending him the postage. This week I’m going to enroll a new member into the NRA in his name. Paying it forward right back atcha.

Thanks again and again….. Doc

As a noob, I purchased on eBay after studying that source for a couple of weeks for a good deal. Best I found was raw wheel weights for (presmelted over $1.50 per lb. After smelting came out to about $2 per lb. THAT IS ABOUT THE BEST YOU WILL FIND ON EBAY. I am a member now of Cast Boolits. They often have lead for sale for $1 per lb smelted, ready to go. It's a no brainer. My local sources have dried up a while ago. Tire shops, junk yards etc... none of them will sell you any lead. All of them have "contracts" with opportunists who distribute. Even the one public range has a contract with someone. They give you that crap "insurance" excuse. Oddly the thing I can find is tin. Evidently people around here haven't caught on as to how valuable tin is yet. Shhhhhhhh. It is actually worthless junk. Take it off their hands for about twenty five cents a pound.

@Traffer - I hooked up with a lead seller on Cast Boolits and I'm getting that deal as well.

@cannonman - I got into in South Florida after 16 hours of driving. I'm going to relax for a few days and then I'll hit the boat yards, as Ohen Cepel suggested, for keel lead. If I see anything interesting I'll get in touch with you.
