Over 65,000 Southern blacks were in the Confederate army. Over 13,000 "saw the elephant," meaning they met the enemy in combat. These Black Confederates included both slave and free. The Confederate Congress did not allow blacks to officially enlist as soldiers (except as musicians) until late in the war. In the field, conditions differed and Confederate commanders enlisted black soldiers.

The liberal has been so mis-educated and fooled into believing up is actually down, this paper could shatter the fabric of their very being. Politically correct liberals have so swallowed the propaganda of the socialist mission and so ingrained this false history, along with the required unreasoning hate of others -- and often themselves, into their souls I can not imagine being in their shoes and contemplating this essay. Judging by the liberals I know, the facts presented here will be worse than if they reached age forty-five and discovered their parents weren't their parents, their siblings were no relation and they'd been a test tube baby. The liberal psyche, self-worth and ego are tied into thinking they're spiritually superior, and know what is right and who to hate. The naked truth concerning the South could sear their souls. Hopefully, the already acclaimed movie, "Gods and Generals," will prepare these people for the truth. Dr. Lewis Steiner, Chief Inspector of the United States Sanitary Commission while observing Gen. "Stonewall" Jackson's occupation of Frederick, Maryland, in 1862: "Over 3,000 Negroes must be included in this number [Confederate troops]. These were clad in all kinds of uniforms, not only in cast-off or captured United States uniforms, but in coats with Southern buttons, State buttons, etc. These were shabby, but not shabbier or seedier than those worn by white men in the rebel ranks. Most of the Negroes had arms, rifles, muskets, sabers, bowie-knives, dirks, etc.....and were manifestly an integral portion of the Southern Confederate Army."
B. For the thinkers:
The conservative and libertarian reader will find this a good review of history. Hopefully, those readers will discover a few new facts. The author will strive to present the facts in a proper human, cultural and historical context to further civilized debate and honest discourse among the thinking population, including that rare liberal, (such as Christopher Hitchens), who doesn't run from raw reality. I will try to avoid ridiculing the average liberal in this essay for their abysmal ignorance and inability to utilize comparative reasoning. Their lack of knowledge and insight are not their fault, but the direct result of anti-American socialist subversives destroying the school system. This article is designed to awaken any spark of intelligence remaining in the average leftist. The truth, if they read it and check on the facts for themselves, will be debilitating, until they've had time to absorb the information and realize how much evil people have taken advantage of them. He was aboard the CSS Shenandoah, and the surrender occurred in England.

The American negro has been used by evil people to work against their own interests. The Democrat voting American negro now hates the Confederate flag which means they curse their own ancestors who loved, fought and died for the Confederacy. By following the left, if one studies AIDS, venereal disease rates, crime statistics, educational levels, marital and illegitimacy rates, the Democrat-voting American negro has helped the socialists of America damage his race and people in far worse ways than the most vile Ku Klux Klan member ever envisioned. Dr. Leonard Haynes, a black professor at Southern University, stated, "When you eliminate the black Confederate soldier, you've eliminated the history of the South." The Democrat-voting American negro has no understanding of his history, and shamefully doesn't even realize more Negroes, by percentage or raw numbers, are incarcerated or in chains in modern politically correct America than was ever the case under slavery. On April 4, 1865 a Confederate supply train in Virginia was exclusively manned and guarded by black Infantry. When attacked by Federal Cavalry, they stood their ground and fought off the charge. On the second charge they were overwhelmed. These soldiers were believed to be from "Major Turner's" Confederate command.
D. Purpose for the average person:
To realize how little the average American under fifty knows of his history, his culture, the societal conditions, economic and cultural throughout our history is abysmal. The assault on education led by socialist-inspired politicians, public schools, universities, television and others allied was for the destruction of western civilization. The results are clearly seen when questioning most people concerning our history and common traditions. Although, this type article has been circulating in my mind, a talk with a Southern lady prompted my writing it. This woman has a son who hates the South and its traditions. It is bad enough a northern graduate doesn't understand the pre- and post Civil War South, but it is a tragedy for a Southern child, white, black, Mexican-American or Indian to lack that history. Here is a Southern person who doesn't realize his ancestors, white or black, suffered the most oppressive punishment the American government has inflicted on any conquered people, with the exception of some American Indian tribes. The grinding of the heel into the fallen enemy was called Reconstruction. Anywhere, except in the South that punishment would have resulted in race wars. "…And after the battle of Gettysburg in July 1863, …reported among the rebel prisoners were seven blacks in Confederate uniforms fully armed as soldiers…" -New York Herald, July 11, 1863.
E. The Reason:
Hopefully, after checking the facts, the awakened liberal and the ex-Democrat-voting negro, will aid the rest of us in improving the educational system. After reassessing your views, please realize it's not to late to learn. Question the implications behind those wanting you to remain ignorant and made you hate without reason. If anyone has valid reasons for hate after the Civil War it's Southerners of all races for the horrors Reconstruction forced a defeated people to overcome. Most of the black musicians served as individuals. Henry Brown of South Carolina enlisted in the Darlington Guards, and later served in the 8th and 21st SC Regiments in Virginia. After his death in 1907, his local Sons of Confederate Veterans chapter gave him a full military funeral, complete with a draped Confederate battle flag.
This essay is not a defense of the South or the Confederacy. There were many terrible things about the South before and after the Civil War. However, those bad issues along with the good points should be viewed with an honest and open perspective. There is undeniable value to the saying, "The truth will set you free." Perhaps this article will set many liberals free to quit hating. They need to reflect on why Lenin referred to them as useful idiots. Few people on earth can truthfully look at the history of the South and say they would have done as well given the time and conditions. Nor can many look in their own backyards and say their ancestors did better in tolerating the diversity of others. The question to study is why were the Southern people so tolerant in allowing diversity, and why did all those races get along so well together, despite many terrible and unfair societal barriers?

The Northerners killed six of the blacks before retreating; officers later swore out affidavits they were attacked by blacks and later complained: "If they fight with Negroes, why should we not fight with them too?"

Looking at the Civil War and realizing a high percent of the Southern population was black and most of them enslaved, it should occur to even an earthworm the South would have collapsed in six hours if the slave population didn't support the Confederacy. This being the case one must ask, why don't socialists want that aspect of our history understood? The Louisiana free blacks stated in a letter written to the New Orleans' Daily Delta: "The free colored population love their home, their property, their own slaves and recognize no other country than Louisiana, and are ready to shed their blood for her defense. They have no sympathy for Abolitionism; no love for the North, but they have plenty for Louisiana."
Although, I've provided the average liberal and person blindly accepting the media's propaganda concerning slaves, Negroes and the South reason to pause, there's probably still doubt. Right now, you're saying those paraphrased quotes are anomalies. The South is truly evil and always worked against the black man and other races. Their religion was behind this horrible treatment they inflicted on others. As most liberals, you're smugly sitting there thinking, the black could achieve nothing without helpful liberal people exactly like me. I and people like me made it A-okay for the negro. The negro was always a second class citizen, especially in the South until people exactly like me led the civil rights movement and desegregated the South. Remember the big fuss in that enlightened city of New York after the 9-11 tragedy? Three white guys erected the flag at the site and then politically correct automatons screamed there wasn't a black or Latin in the statue copied from the photograph. My, my, my, the intolerance toward diversity in the liberal Northern United States. It's a wonder Hillary Clinton, in an effort to demonstrate her true commitment to diversity and racial tolerance, didn't resign her Senate seat in disgust over the resulting racial turmoil. I didn't mean to focus entirely on black Confederates but realize that is the focal point for most uneducated people when they hate the South. In all the world over many centuries Jews aren't considered to be the nationality of their country of residence first and then Jewish. I didn't mean to focus entirely on black Confederates but realize that is the focal point for most uneducated people when they hate the South. Generally speaking the people propagandized into hating the South have also been brainwashed into accepting other misconceptions. The socialist reasoning includes blaming white Southern Protestants for much of the imagined racial hate and lack of diversity.
