I've always liked the looks of a Mannlicher stocked rifle, but never owned one until yesterday. Now there's a clean, used .22LR CZ452FS in my collection! :D This particular rifle has had some trigger work done. I can already hear the cries of "hair trigger!" when I let other shooters try it. After just shy of a hundred rounds downrange, I've decided it's just about right for making good shooting easy.

Today I only tried CCI Standard Velocity and CCI Mini-Mag HPs, mostly at 25 yards but a few at 100 against some standard clay pigeons scrounged from the trap range. This rifle will SHOOT! I was already planning on putting a 4x Leupold rimfire scope on it in the future, and the preliminary groups seem to indicate this will be a good decision. Once I have some glass on top, I'll need to round up some match ammo.

The rifle:

Some quick bench-rested 5-shot groups at 25-yards:

All in all, I'm very pleased. The only thing I wish is that I had taken the plunge on buying one of these sooner. :banghead: I'd forgotten how enjoyable it is to spend some time behind an accurate .22LR bolt gun.

I'm jealous. The closest I'll ever come is the Norinco JW-15 I bought for $60. (It's a copy of the CZ452) It may be just a copy, but they copied the most essential stuff (thick steel receiver, dual locking lugs), and the original design is so good the Norinco is a good gun in its own right. Except for the trigger. Had to be something. But at least it can use CZ452 mags. :D

Very nice! Be careful though, CZs are addictive and you're liable to end up with several more before you know it. :) The 452 FS was my first CZ and I'm almost ashamed to say how many I have here 4 years later....

Nice FS, just something about the FS models. As a matter of fact my first .22 is the CZ 452fs I purchased back in 2008 still accurate till this day. Last week my Tech Sights arrived and I have to admit I never enjoyed shooting it more. I finally purchased the CZ 527 FS model, should be in this week.

I also have a thing for full stocked rifles and that one you've got is beautiful! Great looks and accurate too; what a great combination in a .22LR bolt action rifle! Thanks for sharing.

Try some standard velocity ammo like SK Std + or Wolf MT if you want a smile on your face. Or even better, RWS R50 at 50 yds will do as good as mini mags at 25yds.

Thanks for the compliments! ifit, that's a very nice looking stock on your FS.

I took my CZ back out today for some work at 50 yards. Three quick 10-round groups with the CCI SV went between 1.25 and 1.5". Not bad for an iron sighted sporter; my scoped 10/22 will barely get to 1" for 10-shots at 50 yards with the same ammo. After that I decided to check the 200 meter/yard (not sure which it is) setting on the rear sight. Laughter ensued as the barely audible "tink" of the little 40gr slug hitting a steel plate returned to the line.

bamajoey, I was already thinking to try some Wolf MT or RWS Target Rifle. I'm open to any other suggestions of practice-quality .22LR match ammo to try out. I've used both the Wolf and RWS shooting 50-foot 4-position in the past. Unfortunately I sold my last 2 bricks of MT during the last Banic.

have to agree on the SK standard plus, amazed on groupings using irons on my FS

Thanks walker, was luck of the draw getting my FS with that stock. Never forget when it arrived at my FFL dealer...he actually wanted to purchase it from me.

I didn't hit the wood lottery with mine either, but they're all beautiful rifles. I have occasionally thought about getting a centerfire companion for it.

Wanderin;

If you scope it, look to Talley for rings. They're a bit more expensive, but the fit will be superb. The fullstocks do have a reputation for shooting well, and it's well deserved. If you plan to hunt with it, I'll suggest you try the Winchester X22LRPP ammo. That's the 40 grain HP at an advertised 1280 fps. Many CZ452's give very good accuracy with that round. If your gun likes it, you indeed have a winner!

I'll also suggest that you go over to the Rimfirecentral site & find the CZ/BRNO forum. That is almost certainly the single best source on the planet for information on your gun. If you do go there, just for kicks, find the CZ Picture Gallery sticky at the head of the forum, go to page 169 & post 2531. Therein you'll be able to view a very rare beast, a left hand CZ452 fullstock.

I'm also a fan of the CZ FS guns. They are all great shooters. I've refinished some of mine to bring out the natural wood grain. It's hard for me to capture in a photo but the Turkish Walnut that CZ uses is beautiful under the heavy factory finish, even if there's minimal feature showing through from the factory.

Wow, those refinished stocks look great! I see some nice striping on a couple of those rifles.

900F, thanks for the tip on the Winchester ammo. I'll find some to try out. I've also been lurking at Rimfire Central the last couple of days, I think I may have a user name registered over there from the past. Not 100% sure, need to find out.

Sadly it appears my 452 needs to see the gun doctor before I can put it to field use. :( The extra-light trigger doesn't have enough sear engagement to hold the striker when the buttstock is dropped onto a hard surface from 3-4". I was thinking about having the pull weight set to 2.5-lbs or so anyway, which should solve the safety issue. (The sear does hold when working the bolt vigorously at least.)

(For the record, not the first time I've encountered a trigger lightened too much. One would actually drop when the safety was disengaged. THAT was interesting. :what: )

wanderinwalker, sounds like someone might have just replaced the trigger spring with a "too light" one. Did you know that there's an adjustment nut on the trigger? if you take the action out of the stock you can access it easily. Just crank it up a little bit and see if that solves your problem. If not, you might need an Ace Hardware #144 spring. Check out this thread: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1625036

I love my 452s

I got a Scout, with a Trainer stock, bthat is a wonderful walkabout gun.

I have a Trainer in 22lr and a peep in the rear leaf. It loves Remmy Golden Bullet, and will shoot 3" at 100 yards all day long. (That's with me on the iron sights.)

My Full Stock is in 22wmr, with a Leupold Hog Scope on top. It is an absolute hoot of a gun.
