besides pellgun oil what else will work instead of the higher priced oil that won't hurt seals and is much cheaper?? thanks!

Ive heard of using detergent free engine oil, as well as air tool oil. Ive been using up my supplies of paintball gun oil which is what id suggest. Pellgun oil isnt that expensive, considering how offten an airgun should be lubbed.

30wt non detergent oil is what Daisy recommends for their pumpers and c02. A tube of pellgun oil, though not cheap for what you get, should last many years.
A while back I bought Mac1's secret sauce for my regular benjamin 392. My great, great grandkids should be able to use the oil too....

I've used pure silicone oil for air guns. Supposedly it is the "only" option for airsoft guns.
Depends on the gun and what part of said gun. Wutcha got?
I use syn motor oil for most everything, but silicone for certain things on certain guns.
Apparently pellgun oil is actually a type of motor oil, per the msds sheet, but what's special about it exactly I'm not sure. Obviously it has something to protect rubber, or maybe lacks whatever something that causes the problem. I do know that seals can still harden and shrink over time with pellgun oil, and I guess that'll happen no matter what with enough time but I suppose silicone is better for certain synthetics like that plunger. The best thing imo is buy replacement seals to have on hand just in case.

I bought a quart of supertech ND 30w motor oil at mallmart and seems to work great it will take me years to use that up lol!
I'm not sure what the earliest detergent formulations contained to make companies like Daisy to recommend NOT using detergent motor oil but the first Daisy bb guns didn't have rubber seals, so maybe the reason had something to do w/the effect early detergent oils had on leather. In any event Pellgun oil, as well as Mobil One, etc. contain additives that include detergents. I believe any modern motor oil is fine for metal to metal wear points. Not for compression chambers of high power pellet guns due to dieseling of course. To be on the safe side I'd avoid "high mileage" motor oils due to the additives that swell seals, in case it came in contact w/any rubber.

The MSDS for Crosman Pellgunoil states the oil is 8430 Monolec GFS engine oil, distributed by Lubrication Engineers, Inc. The current packaging states that Pellgunoil contains “petroleum products”. The following text on this oil is from their PDF:

I went the detergent free engine oil route. I have more than I will ever be able to use up. I too couldn't justify the price of pellgun oil. I found mine at a local Napa auto parts.

i wonder if monolec is more like stp oil treatment? I use it in my engines with SAE20-50w motor oil I get more oil pressure and lower engine temps! STP is excellent for reducing friction and not having dry starts so that's why I said I wonder if its like this monolec??
