I packed up and went hunting, planning to hunt a field and lake bank out of my mini truck. was real windy. got set up about a quarter to 6, started getting light around 6:35. the buck came at a fast walk from a point of woods crossing a field I was watching out of the front windshield, was really planning on shooting down the lake bank or down a grassy road out either window but he had different plans. had to get out, propped on the front windshield and popped him at a fast walk at 200 yards with my AR. dropped like a sack of bricks. was shooting 62gr brownbear SP's. I've never had a deer walk from one of my AR's, and was glad he didn't cause the river was about 80 yards in front of him. anyway, a good hunt, now it's time for a hot shower and a long nap. everything but the backstraps and tenderloins will be made into link sausage. started sleeting right after the hunt.

Very nice! All I could think of was venison chili!
I got to go one time this year. Got into the woods at 3:45 pm. At last light an 8 point walked in. Thick cover forced me to wait.
He needed to take one more step to give me a clear shot...but his nose saved him! Never saw a deer "blast away" like he did. So, congratulations. Good shot...good hunt!

Beautiful buck. Is it legal to hunt from a vehicle in your state? In Michigan you can't even lean against one for a rest. You stated you wanted to shoot out the front windshield.

^^ Not sure if that applies to your own land. I've tried to look it up but can't find the right information.

Hopefully we are mistaken and sharpshoot101 didn't just post his poached deer on "social media".

After looking through AGFC it doesn't show anywhere that gives landowners permission to hunt on private property out of season.

As far as I know, the Ark regs only speak of shooting from or across a public road. Says nothing about shooting from a vehicle on private land. I still wonder about the date though. Two years ago some poachers in Missouri posted pictures of monster bucks that they had shot in October on Facebook. MDC now has the antlers and the poachers were fined and lost their licenses.

I can give some insight on shooting a deer from a vehicle in Arkansas.
There is no law against it, providing you are not hunting from a moving vehicle or within 100 ft of the center line of a county road.

Sometimes when it is raining and I don't feel like getting soaked I will park where I can look down a logging road. I've killed several deer that way. I know that some don't consider it hunting, but that's fine. It puts venison in the freezer.

However as far as shooting it with a rifle, I can't help you there. I don't think there is a deer zone in the state where you were allowed to shoot one with a rifle after 12-28.

Maybe he killed it in another state. It is unseasonably warm in Arkansas right now and he did say that it started sleeting as soon as he shot it.
I don't think it sleeted anywhere in the state yesterday.

On private land I really see no difference in sitting in a tent blind or a vehicle. I don't, but that is just me. I have had some impossible tracking jobs when the weather was sour and prefer not to hunt then.

I do hope that the OP was in another state because that is a very nice buck. It would be a shame to loose it to the AGFC.

That's a really nice buck. Hopefully 'Sharpshoot101' will return with more info on where it was taken. If the worst is confirmed perhaps he should change his screen name to 'huntinglaws101'

Maybe it was taken in an urban zone, or a special park/military reduction hunt.........those types of things can go on before/during/after regular hunting seasons.
As such..........I don't go around worrying about what other posters do.

Not allowed to shoot from a vehicle in my state.........unless one has a handicap permit. Then it's legal.
So just another reason IMHO..............to not worry WTH somebody else is doing.
