Wasn't sure where to post this question. Looked thru the shooting gear section and found nothing. The older I get (now age 71) the more I need to accommodate my limitations. So am looking for a sturdy tripod from which to shoot in my deer blind. Missing 2 shots last year (a first for me) made me realize I need all the help I can get. I'm looking at Vanguard Pro, either a 40 or 68 inch model. I'll alway be shooting from a sitting position. I'm looking for strength and stability. Can you guys recommend something? BTW, I have a monopod and a bipod, but believe I need the added stability of the tripod. Thanks for your help. Tom

You would be surprised how stable a decent camera tripod with a piece of 2x6 screwed to it and a small cloth shot bag full of plastic airsoft pellets bunji corded to the 2x6 is. Its what I use- hit the pawn shops and find an old camera tripod.

For what you are talking about, I would think that the Vanguard Pro 40 inch model would meet your needs.

Of course when I read the title of this thread, I thought you were looking for something like:

I was looking at the Vanguard Pro 40 when I received your response. Seems to me the best option too, so I ordered it. Another poster suggested Manfrotto, which is fantastic stuff but 4X as expensive__good stuff though. Wish me luck come deer season in 2 weeks. This is cheaper than buying a new rifle, which was my first impulse when I missed twice last year. Tom

I have a Manfrotto, had a Slik, they're fantastic and as solid as can be had in a tripod, but none-too-cheap either.

For hunting, I REALLY like the Primos Trigger Sticks. The new tripod has a leg spread limiter collar, but I've never struggled with mine. It's not as stable as the Manfrotto or Slik, but it's a lot less expensive and sets up WAY, WAY, WAY faster. Costs less than the Pig Saddle I have on my match tripod, and more than stable enough for hunting. I even use it with a (discontinued) Bog Gear PSR to hunt with specialty pistols and revolvers.
