M&P M2.0 Compact

I’ve seen a couple police officers carrying M&p’s, nowhere near as many as I’ve seen carrying glocks over the years. Big surprise right? Not. While in a cab in Indiana we smoked a deer on 24 and when the Wabash police came to dispatch the dear low and behold they had M&p 40’s. While in Cincinnati a few years back I seen some cops carrying M&p’s. Heck even Ottawa Hills police in Lucas county were carrying xd’s over a decade ago (don’t know what they carry now). To this day that is the only police department I’ve seen carry xd’s and I’ve gone all over the U.S., but I’m sure some small department somewhere else issues xd’s. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I don’t see any men wearing fanny packs anymore, but I know they’re still out there somewhere (cough cough yankee marshal, nutnfancy cough cough). Glock took over U.S. law enforcement duty rigs for 30 years, it’s going to take time to end that reign. I’ve yet to see a Cz or Fn in a leo holster. M&p’s are scattered thin, but it’s not like looking for Waldo. If you go enough places and see enough police departments you’ll see plenty I'm sure

In 2009 Reuters reported that the DEA was using them.

And another quick Google search turned up multiple departments in both PA and VA using the M&P. What you haven't seen only proves what you haven't seen.
They were not out in 2009! LOL

:alien:...I was on staff at IDPA National matches in 2008, and the fellow who won CDP division (that's for .45 ACP semi-autos, like 1911s) was shooting a .45 M&P. Seems it was a fairly common model back then, so I'd say they were available to cops as well.

The police in my hometown use M&Ps. Here's a blurb from our town's website:
In the Summer of 2011, the Department transitioned from Glock .40 caliber pistols to Smith & Wesson M&P .45 caliber pistols, to greater improve the performance and stopping power provided by the Department’s issued handgun.

I'm talking about the 2.0 Compact! It just came out!

Come on, now. You're caught and you know it. Of course the brand spanking new M&P 2.0 isn't in cop holsters yet. You said you've never seen an M&P in a cop holster. They are out there, and not just a few of them.
Glock Killers! What is that? It sure isn't a S&W M&P! Ever wonder why M&P's are non-existent in the Military and Police world?

Show me where you said the new 2.0 wsn't in police holsters.

Oh... Your reply was to a comment made about M&Ps in general so naturally your reply insinuates youre talking about he same thing.

If you were talking about the 2.0.... and acknowledge that they just came out.... then it's a bit perplexing that you'd use the arguement that none of the LEA or Military use them. Duh... they just came out.

Regardless, the M&P is used by LEAs as noted by a few members above despite your claim.

Information purposes only. The DEA uses Glocks. There are no Federal Agencies who use M&P pistols. Yes, a small number of police departments do. No State Police or large urban departments either. I was told the large size 2.0 is being considered by a number of PD's. This came from a Smith product rep.

Old Unc, based on your join date, you've been joshing us ever since.

I re-registered here. I was on this site before most of you even knew what a gun was! If you believe my data is incorrect, then refute it with valid information. I'm a huge S&W fan, but that has nothing to do with the reality. One huge reason most departments use Glocks is due to pricing. It's their biggest marketing tool to get them in the hands of private owners. Maybe the S&W M&P's will surface with more departments in the future. What really hurt them was their new 2.0 was rejected by the FBI, US Army, and Navy Seals. Not a good start IMHO.

Los Angeles County is almost 5000 sq miles and is more populated than 42 states according to 2015 census.

LASD is the 2nd? largest sheriff's dept.

LASD is issued the M&P.

Now you're just trolling, right? Are you simply trying to annoy folks here by repeating your misinformation? Many, many large urban departments (Detroit PD, for example) and state police agencies (Colorado State Patrol, Washington State Patrol) have issued the M&Ps for almost TEN years. Other agencies include the Atlanta, Columbus and Cincinnati Ohio PDs, New Mexico State Patrol, Iowa State Police, New Hampshire State Police ... Presumably, there are a number more since ...

You're really adding nothing to the thread, other than displaying ignorance and a propensity to argue for the sake of arguing.

To answer the OP's question, I haven't seen the compact version yet but have owned the full size version for a few months. I may be wrong, but it doesn't appear as though the compact version is that much smaller than the full size. The barrel drops from 4.5 to 4 inches. I don't see anything in Smith and wesson's web site that lists the height, but mine is maybe 1/2 inch taller than my Gen 3 Glock 19. I love mine. The grip angle, the texture of the grip, the trigger pull and the ergonomics all work for me. I've yet to have a malfunction of any kind, with over 1000 rounds through it and while in my hands it's not quite as accurate as my CZ's, it is accurate. It's quickly become my primary carry gun. If the size difference between the two really is negligible, I'll stick with the full size version. If the compact is small enough that it fits a different role than the full size, I'm a buyer.

The M&PFS is not significantly larger than a Glock19 but the difference is surprisingly noticeable when you're carrying it.

Understood. If I was buying one now and it's primary purpose was CC I'd lean towards the compact for that reason. I carry the full size often and it's not uncomfortable, so what I'm considering is whether for me the difference is enough to warrant the compact version also.

You mean you haven't run across the term "Glock Killer" before?!? I sure didn't invent it.

No, I don't wonder. I don't try to keep up on the statistics of which departments & agencies carry what, but M&Ps aren't "non-existent" in the police world. I haven't gone out and researched what various departments issue, but I do notice what's in the holsters of police who come into my courtroom. Around here, Glocks are clearly the most prevalent, but I've seen M&Ps.

I have yet to see one M&P in a cop's holster.
That makes one of us.

Refute your information? You mean the hearsay that was purportedly told to you by an anonymous "Smith product rep?" You made the claim ("There are no federal agencies who use M&P pistols . . . No State Police or large urban departments either."), you provide the proof.

Old Unc’ just admit you were misinformed and all can be forgiven lol. We are all wrong sometimes, and you couldn’t be any more wrong about ‘some’ of your M&p debate

I just picked up the 2.0 compact yesterday. I fired 300 rounds yesterday and another 200 rounds today. I used an assortment of 115 grain, 124 grain, and 147 grain ammo. I shot 350 hollow points(115 grain and 124 grain gold dots and 147 grain HST) and 150 FMJ (115 grain Lawman and 147 grain Lawman), with no malfunctions.

I hadn't shot a M&P in forever and was shooting low initially but a little trigger time and shooting to the dot instead of the top of the blade solved that. The trigger is a definite improvement, though not as good as my XD. The grip texture is too rough for my liking but it's not a deal breaker. I compared the height to my XD Sub Compact by setting them both upside down on the sights and the M&P compact is approximately 1/4 inch taller than the XD subcompact. I really like the size.

Included in the box are two magazine adapters to use with a full size 17 round magazine. I thought that was a cool extra. Given that they set you up to run full size mags if you want, I find the compact a more attractive option than the full size.

I had a chance to handle one at a LGS on Friday. The size difference between it and the full size is, to me, enough to warrant buying one. Had I not picked up a CZ P10 on Thursday I would have bought it. I think Smith and Wesson is going to do well with this.
