Been trying to find one for a few months. But every time I do it has the manual safety or is priced right at $600.
My friend that owns the local pawn and gun shop said that he would get me one as soon as one of one of his distributors got one in. This pass Friday he told me that he found one at Lipseys, and that it would be here this week.
I stopped in on the way home to see if anything new had been put out. My friend was busy logging in an order of guns that had just showed up. While in the gun room he walked in with a S&W box and handed to me. He said he had just pulled it out of the box of other guns. There it was, my S&W M&P9 M2.0 FDE , no manual safety, 4.99 barrel., in my hand. I took a look at it and smiled. He asked if that was the one I wanted, and I said yes. He then took it back to the front to log it in and price it, while I filled out the 4473.
When I went to check out I saw that he had priced it at $499.:) I look at my friend and said, only $499. He replied, I told you I was just going to mark it up $50. :)
I had thought about getting this gun as a retirement gift to myself, but that 15 weeks away. I guess I need to pick another gun for that.;)
I’m going to shoot it tomorrow.

Congratulations on another purchase AND your upcoming retirement.....15 weeks are nothing, they will go by before you know it!

Let us know your range report.

And, yes, you will definitely will have to buy a dedicated retirement firearm!

That looks good. I like that it has the traditional M&P loaded chamber window and not the big loaded chamber lever a lot of the 2.0 versions seem to have.

15 weeks till retirement. That is awesome. It might take that long for your next selection to come back in stock.....;)

Congratulations on your purchase! Congratulations on you upcoming retirement!
Now I'm wondering what you will choose for a retirement gun.
I would be curious to learn your impressions after shooting it.

Gunny,

The excitement that you have makes even the most normal of gun buying stories a fun little adventure! I appreciate your writings very much.

That m&p is on my list for a striker fired nine, but every time I go to get one, I end up with a Canik instead. I really do think the m&p is the best "mid level" pistol out right now. I hope the aftermarket picks up a little bit more to at least be 50% of what Glock has.

Great buy, looking forward to the range report. Congrats and thank ya!!

I’m on the lookout for one too and like you, I prefer to not have the safety.

I also have a friend at the local pawnbroker looking out for me and I got excited when he called me a few weeks ago with one they got in. Alas, it has the safety.

That is the joy of casual looking though.

Every gun buy has a store, some just better than others. :) It’s not hard to post a gun buying story. You just pretend that you’re telling it to someone as you type it. :) And a little story is always better then; I picked this gun up the other day and I like it....:(

I did shoot it when I got to work this morning at the lad. The shoot/test fire room is not that bid. This is the first 15 rounds for about 6 yards.

I went with the 4.99 barrel for two reasons. #1 I like the look. #2 I have a M&P9 m1.0 with the shorter barrel. Plus, it’s gust another range toy.
I really like the balance and the feel of the grip.

If I have time, I’ll try to make it out to the range this week.

I found two within the last year at pawn shops at good prices but they hat the manual safeties.

I don't know about you Gunny but getting a gun for your retirement sure beats the old traditional gold watch by a country mile!

Let us know what you pick out for your soon-to-be-a-civilian gun and all the best to you on your retirement!

Congratulations on your recent purchase and your upcoming retirement.

I was going to retire this summer, but decided to stick it out at least one more year.

I want one thats the FDE frame with the black side. i guess they don't make it anymore so I'll have to wait til I come across a used one

It's okay to say it has a 5.0" barrel. S&W does. 5 is the barrel length printed on the box of mine - though mine has a thumb safety. What barrel length is printed on your box?

I miss my M&P 9s, had the 9c and 9L (5” barrel). Sold both to defray legal costs of my last mistake and I’ve been looking again after dad chose the Shield 9EZ for his latest pistol. Still have and love the 40 but I think I kept the wrong one.

Congratulations on your new M&P and the impending retirement. By the way, a new Python makes for a nice retirement gift, or so I’m told.

I’ll have to check the box, buy Lipsey’s website listed it as 4.99”. o_O ??

I’ve thought about the new Python, but Clot has not impressed me much in the last 20 years. I have always believed that price and quality should go hand in hand, and I Colts to be over priced. But like I say, you have to pay to ride the pony.

Guny

While we all are thrilled with your upcoming retirement I think a lot of us here also want to know what your thoughts are on your "retirement gun"? Glock, S&W, SIG, Beretta, Springfield Armory, Ruger, Les Baer, Nighthawk, Ed Brown, or something completely different!

Well, I can assure you that it will not be a Hi Point or a Springfield XD.
I pretty much have all the Glocks I want, or need.
I’ve a butt load of ARs, but not one in 308. ??
But who knows. It’s hard to find a gun you want when you already have more than you need.

The full size 9mm was the first M&P 2.0 I bought. I liked it so much I bought 6 more, between my 2 Shields and other 9's, a 40 and 45's. The full size 9 seemed to be the forgotten child for a while, but I had a chance to shoot it yesterday and was reminded why I like them so much. Accurate, tames recoil well and reliable. Have fun with yours, Gunny.

I've been a "Glock guy" for a while. I tried the original M&P and just never warmed up to it. But I've had a chance to shoot a few of the 2.0's and even owned a compact for a while. I could learn to like them. But I sold the M&P 2.0 after buying a Sig M17. I just like it a little better.

Interesting. They must have dropped that page because now it lists it as 5".

I checked the box and it does have 5” on it.

It’s funny that two weeks ago, everywhere I looked showed the barrel as 4.99 but were all out of stock. Now everyone has them in stock showing 5” barrels.
The good thing is 5” is easier to say and type then 4.99”. :)
I just saw one listed with a 4.25 barrel. This would be better for someone wanting one to carry.
Mine will be a range toy, for shooting and fun.
