Decided to hit the Tanner show today, maybe grab some bullets, brass, other sundries. I don't really expect to find anything worthwhile at a reasonable price, but you never know.

Toward the end of making my rounds, I spotted something tucked behind some other rifles on a rack that caught my attention. I parted with $225, and I am now the proud owner of this:

It's an original Costa Mesa, CA ArmaLite, I'm guessing mid 60s production by the 55xxx serial number. Its in pretty good condition

It also came with a black Charter stock, which will be nice for actually using the thing without risking the original ArmaLite stock.

I'm not real big on the current Henry or other incarnations, but I think an original is pretty cool, and the price was more than fair, IMO.

Nice, hopefully it operates better than my Charter Arms version. If you look up jam-o-matic in the dictionary, it shows a picture of my rifle.

What a neat find............. Complete with box & papers. I've never seen one of those in person and have only seen a few of the Charter Arms models. Although I did purchase a barely used 3 or 4 year old Henry model with box and papers in early 2016 at a show. That one cost me about 258 bucks with tax. I would have jumped on that Armalite immediately if I had come across it. IIRC the Armalites were pretty trouble free and it was the Charter Arms ones that had some "issues"? Buddy of mine had a Charter Arms model years ago and it was a bit of a hassle sometimes but not always. I've heard that Henry worked some of the "bugs" out of that design. If anything, you now have a neat little rifle that was the pioneer of all the AR-7 rifles that have come along since.

Neat little rifle! A buddy of mine has one of the henrys, and that gun seems pretty reliable, couple jams every 100-200rnds with cheap ammo.

These guns have always screamed shortened, and shrouded barrel at me for some reason.

That's pretty slick. I've a hard time paying more than $150 for a rimfire but that's a pretty good buy.

Try getting some new magazines for it. The feed ramp is integral in the mag, usually the culprit.

I have owned one of those Charter Arms AR-7s for................I don't know........20 years, 25 years ??
I used to carry it in my vehicle all the time and since I always had it with me, I seemed to shoot it quite a bit. And it worked great. After years of use, it started to have a lot of malfunctions. I bought a new magazine and the problem was solved.

I had actually forgotten I even owned one until I saw this thread. After I got home from work, I went through some boxes of stuff from the last time I moved and there it was. The stock is pretty dinged up, but, mine was never a safe queen. I think it also has some automotive undercoating on the stock from riding in a trunk for years. I will have to take it out and see if it still works.

I would have been all over that Armalite for that price. Good find.

Definitely a nice find and a smart move to snag it. I still cannot get my head around the idea that nice rimfires sell used for a song compared to their larger bore brethren but then as a buyer I'm not complaining!
