Bullet seating depth shouldn't have any effect on the diameter of the loaded round. Unless the bullets are inconsistent in diameter throughout their length (which I have yet to experience) there should be no problems. Excessive bulging is usually a problem that arises from an overly crimped round.

Well I had 5 that were hanging up in the case gage. Added a touch more crimp and 3 of them fit the gage and plunked. The remaining 2 stuck up proud from the case gage about the thickness of the rim. No observable sign of dings or burrs. I gave up on those and got out the hammer

Does seating at different depths have any impact on accuracy with pistol cartridges? I'm just thinking in regards to the riffling engagement.
I ran a test on this 4-5 years ago when RC was with us. It's somewhere with this forum. I found no difference in accuracy at 1.275 and to point of bullet touching rifling. Of course longer rounds had to be loaded singularity. As RC said, who is going to shoot a 1911 single fire and I agreed, but I just had to try it anyway.
Its just the way I do things!
Tell me I can't do something and you have just lit an eternal fire under me to prove I can!

Brass cases tend to be thicker farther down towards the case head, and seating too deeply can sometimes bulge a little more than the chamber can handle.

I load auto pistol calibers to an OAL that functions 100%. Since I have always been able to work up loads that shoot better than I can, I don't worry about tweaking OAL. That doesn't mean it can't help sometimes.
