I popped into one of my "regular stops" gun shops this morning, and they had managed to clear some shelf space and were finally going through some guns they'd taken in at a gun show some time back. The one that caught my eye was the Sig P239. It looked almost new, with just a tiny buff mark here and there. It was in a cheap after-market plastic case with 2 magazines, both of which also looked fairly unused. I was taken aback just a bit when I asked the price and the chap asked "what would you give for it?" I wasn't sure if this was a setup for a joke, a trick question or what, so I just threw out "$450". He asked "$450 and tax"...etc. So we haggled that a bit. We ended up with $450 out the door, but I bought a few other odds and ends while I was there.

The real surprise was after getting it home and giving it it's first sponge bath. The date stamp inside the grip panel says 7/96. It's over 20 years old and looks practically new. There's even little to no wear on the rails.

I wanted to clean it before shooting it, so I didn't put it on the range today. I DID just come in from chasing an empty soup can around the back yard with it tho'

And here it is in a group shot with some of it's new family...

Super happy for you. I love it when that happens. A couple of months ago I was in one of my local gs looking for a new 44 magnum. I ask to look at the blued Ruger super Blackhawk in the case. Holy smokes, it's an old model barely used. I try to hide my excitement. How much I ask. $700 he says. I say I'll give you $six out the door. He says let me talk to the manager. It's in my safe right now.

You have a nice P239, probably from the first year of production. One telltale sign that it is unmolested is that it has a short reach trigger, which was standard when the P239 was introduced.

The 239 is my favorite Sig. The only example of their products that didn't rust and lose its finish when carried in hot southern summers. Kick myself for selling it.

Congrats on the great find! The P239 makes for a great addition to your handgun family!

HOW did You CARRY your SIG's? I was responsible as an Armorer for a hundred 229's...NEVER had any acute finish issues.

SIG had some issues with finish in the 90s (and still seems to,) I wasn't the only one. Also had issues with rust on small parts, decocker, slide release, and grip screws rusting. Search old 1990s threads here, if the search function let's you go back that far.

To answer the question, in a Milt Sparks 55BN, right side under a jacket, in NC, in the summer. Think 95F, 80% humidity. Bit warmer than Montana. :)

When trying to view the pictures in getting the error message, "the attachment can't be found."

That is an amazing price for almost any Sit in good condition, congratulations.
