How are the made in Bulgaria Arsenal SLR 7.62x39mm AKs in terms of quality and durability of the materials?

The LGS has one with plum furniture new for about $950. It looks impressive on the wall but I'm not sure if they're a junk brand? I know AK builds are all over the map and though I'd run it by the Highroad crew.

Thoughts?

Arsenal is the Cadillac of the AK world. Very high quality. I can't speak to the 7.62 variety but the 223 version I had was impressive. It shot accurately enough and was functionally flawless.

One of the most will regarded brands along with vepr. The only thing bad I have heard is paint issues (peeling off) on some. Didn't affect function but maybe worth a Google search

I bought one in 1999 for 390. That same rifle quickly went to 900 and that was before the panic.
Their quality is very good.
This is not my video, but is the latest model I have.

Arsenal is one of the higher end AKs out there before you get to semi-custom stuff like a Rifle Dynamics. I have a SLR 107 FR and it's an excellent gun and feels like a well put together rifle. There is a noticeable difference in the build quality between my Arsenal and AKs I have previously owned.

$950 is a pretty good price for the folding stock version (SLR 107 FR) but might be a little high for the fixed stock/no flash hider version (SLR 107 R - I'd expect it to be closer to $900). Anyway, great gun and if you want an AK, you can't go wrong with an Arsenal.

Thanks, gang. Did not like those trigger and break in issues from those videos. Looks like this is one to be avoided, but some say it's a good brand??

The Arsenals come with a not great US 2 stage trigger group that many people swap out. Takes about 10 minutes. 922r applies.

They are one of the best brands it there. Get an ALG trigger if you want to upgrade and good to go. Stay away from the US made ones from century. They are garbage

Na... You don't need to avoid the new stamped ones. They are excellent. Most folks look to remove the factory US two stage trigger and replace with a Tapco G2 (formerly Gordon enterprises) , etc.

Some of the old ones like the SLR 95 had a thumbhole stock which most replaced as well. Many of the old ones did not have a scope rail. You can add a side rail or use a different optic mount, or shoot open sights, whatever you want.

So either way, usually a mod or two to get it how you want. The factory Arsenal two stage trigger has a large first stage, so kind of slow.

I've an Arsenal and I love it. Milled receiver, very accurate.....for an AK. Averages around 2 1/2" at a hundred. No scope mounts, just a straightforward AK.

Find yourself an SLR104FR and enjoy the smooth shooting 5.45 round. It’s still cheap as chips to shoot and easy to find if you don’t mind buying ammo online. Just because 7n6 was banned doesn’t mean you can’t buy good steel cased ammo cheap, plus the new production is non corrosive. I just picked 500 rounds for $112 shipped from Academy to add to my stash.

Milled or stamped is just preference, don’t get hung up on it. If you want a new production AK made by a factory that makes military versions, Arsenal is about the only one left that makes one mil spec out of the box for civilian use (only difference being its semi automatic). I’m not sure if Romania’s Cugir still produces rifles for other nations’ armed forces as Arsenal does.

I have the century milled AK with a 10 inch barrel. Not very accurate but it will devour the steel cased ammo all day long without a hiccup. The factory trigger is so light it is scary and it is one heavy brick.

For a factory built rifle with a warranty the Arsenal rifles are hard to beat.

The one competitor that comes to mind is IWI with their Galil ACE rifles in 762 NATO, 556 NATO, and 7.62x39. Those rifles are more expensive but offer features you aren’t going to find anywhere else.
