Okay gang, I'm now shopping for night sights for my Walther P99. Over the years and on various pistols I've used Trijicon, Meprolight, and TruGlo TFX. Does anyone have a favorite night sight for the Walther P99 or PPQ for that matter?

A few years back I tried the Meprolight sights on my P99 and the front sight was way too short. The gun shot high so I ended up switching back to the factory sights.

I have stock sights on my P99. However if I did go with night sights (which I am considering) I like the Truglo TFX sights. Really the best of both worlds combining fiber optics and tritium.

I don't know if they're my "favorite", but I have a set of Trijicon HDs on my PPQ 9mm. They do shoot a little low, at least for my preference. Instead of hitting to the top of the sight post like I zero all of my other pistols and revolvers to, they require a "drive the dot" sight picture, hitting somewhere near the top of the Tritium insert at 25 yards.

(Yes, it's a bit of a weird sensation trying to shoot small groups. However, when shooting steel, silhouettes and most non-Bullseye type use, it's been a non-issue.)

I have a flashlight on my P99. It's far more useful than night sights on a home defense pistol.

I had Trijicons on a P99 I bought used. It seemed to be just as accurate as my newer 99 AS which has a flashlight on it.

There's not really a good way to mount a flashlight to my Gen 1 P99 in question, and secondly, it's a carry gun, not an HD gun. My HD gun is an 870 with a Surefire Scout on it.

I also run Trijicon HDs on one of my PPQs (the one I carry) and on 3 other pistols.

On my PPQ with 147 grn POI=POA which is the "drive the dot" sight picture (3). Not a big deal, a lot of the European guns have the "DTD" sight set up. I have no doubt that it would be low shooting 115s.

To me the HD front sight is actually brighter than most of my Fiber Optic front sights, so the DTD works well, like a large FO front.

Ultimately, I opted for the standard Trijicon night sights. While I like both the TFX Pro and the Trijicon HD sights, from what other P99 and PPQ owners have said, they are pretty significantly different from the factory sights in terms of front sight height and will cause the gun to shoot around 4" low at typical self defense distances. I saw many of the same reports in regard to teh Meprolight Tru Dot sights. The standard Trijicon sights didn't have this issue reported. The sights should be in my mail box today and they'll be off to the smith for install this afternoon.

Dawson Precision sights work well, if they don't perform as you like Dawson will fix them to your liking.

Ironically all the American handguns I learned to shoot with I used picture 2 when shooting. Which is how my P99 shoots as well. When I got my PPS, I learned through THR to use picture 3 for the little brother.

Coming into this discussion kinda late, but for what it's worth, I put a set of Meprolight TRU DOT's on my PPQ a couple of years ago and exerienced very little need to adjust. I love'm.
