MeproLight sights for P99. Any problems?

The rear sight is a snap to install. There is a spring-loaded detent on the right side of the sight that holds it in place. You must use the screw that is in the factory rear sight. It is reverse-threaded. Instructions are here: http://www.praxagora.com/lunde/WaltherP99FAQ/VI/1.html

I have Meprolight night sights on one of my P99s, a pre-2004 Military 9mm version. The only thing special I had to do was to file a bit from the bottom of the sight, because it protruded into the slide too much. I filed it until it was flush. Otherwise, its set screw would not keep it tight.

My favorite P99 night sights are those sold by Earl's Repair Service. See: http://www.carlwalther.com/p99acc.htm

They are "EARL2" and are $125 a pop. They cost more than Trijicon or Meprolight night sights for the P99, but are better. They have Trijicon tritium tubes.

lunde,

In fact I got the info from your sight. Very, very helpful. Regarding Earl's sights, do I understand correctly that the one front sight provided, causes no elevation sight-in problems. Personally, my eyes seem to see and focus better with green colored night sights. I do well with the TruGlo brand. With that in mind, would Earl's still be better? Thanks

I love the meps on my p99. I have trijicon's on my p226 and won't be buying them again. The mepros have a much larger white ring around the tube and I find them far easier to use in daylight.

I put Meps on my first P99. Good stuff.

Not sure what's on my current P99 - need to check & (maybe) swap.

If you get the Meprolights, be careful not to install the front sight crooked. Mine is slightly rotated, and I had to drift my rear sight way to the right to compensate for it. Even after drifting it, the gun still shoots slightly off.

+1 for meps on a p99. I have an AD code p99 and the sights from mep fit perfect and were aligned just right for heighth. I had to borrow someone's front sight tool and used blue locktight on the front sight. On the Walther forum someone mailed me their tool and I mailed back with $5 after i was finished with it. It's been a year now and the front sight is still tightly in place.

I believe that any night sights U buy will have the front sight equal to the height of the #4 sight. If U had to replace the #4 sight with another one of your stock sights, then U may have an issue (My SW99 required the #3, but my P99 and P99c work fine with the #4).

C'mon guy... it's two extra letters. You don't seem to have any problem spelling everything else correctly...

ps.. good info - thanks.

Sorry dude :neener: - It saves time, and I used to be a manager in online chats years ago - always tried to same keystrokes when I could - so, I will continue to use "U" :neener:

Anybody prefer Trijicon?

I'm in the process on putting NS on my P99c. A shop I like to deal with can get me either Meprolights or Trijicons for $79.

I understand the Mepros dots are a bit bigger & brighter than Trijicons, but what about construction quality? I've read a few complaints with Mepros fit, or needing some filing to fit nicely, but never with Trijicons.

Are the Trijicons finished a little better?

For the P99 - I can't anser that as I have never seen the trijicons in person. But, as a whole, the people on the Walther Forum prefer the mepros. And, on other guns I have seen both sights on, I like the mepros better too.
