A few months ago I got the Browning Hi-Power Black Micarta Thin Grips from Brownells and they weren't a deep black... more of a faded black with maybe a little white-ish color in the texture.

I wiped them off with a moist cloth; only water no chemicals involved.

Except for misc handling around the house after I put them on, they havent been used.

Took it back out of the safe and they seem the same or maybe worse. They look kind of dry and chalky.

Is they a way to clean them and keep them a deeper black or is the nature of micarta?

Thanks for any input.

Oils will change the color of micarta (G10 won't). I looked around at VZ Grips for their instructions, as they used to have care directions, but I couldn't find them. I seem to remember you can wash them with soap and water to clean them, but some oil, like mineral oil, and I seem to remember they recommended WD-40 to bring the new from the factory finish color back.

Thanks for the info.

I guess if it feels slippery afterwards I can wash it all off again.
