I have a few questions.

What is accuracy like? Can it compete with a bolt gun like the CZ 527?

Any problems shooting steel cased Russian junk ammo?

Any problems shooting 154 grain SP ammo?

What is the make and model of your AR?

Yeah, I have an ar15 psa in that caliber and it will do 1 moa all day long with wolf military classic or wolf wpa in soft point. I don't shoot tula ammo because I think it is junk and not very accurate. I have had good luck with 154 tula in my sks though.

I have one I built with a Bear Creek side charging upper and a 16" delta team tactical barrel. Mine shoots 2 to 2.5 moa 10 shot groups with wolf HP's. Both the wolf WPA and Military classic shoot like that in mine. I only have 2 10 rnd C products mags but it has been 100% reliable with about 400 rounds through it. All the ammo I've shot in it is Russian steel case junk and I've never cleaned it except the bore.

I really enjoy shooting it and I may try a better quality barrel someday. It's a lot of fun on steel plates and I'm even planning on buying dies and finding a load to put it in the deer hunting rotation.

I’ve had a few x39 uppers, no part of me would say one could EVER keep up with the top potential of the CZ bolt rifle, with the exception of comparing a sub-optimal load in the bolt gun to the ideal load in the AR. But you should be able to find a 1moa load in x39 in a quality build.

I don’t run Russian junk; life is too short to shoot junk ammo or drink cheap whiskey.

Or use cheap toilet paper!

I skimp out on several things but never on toilet paper, garbage bags, or whiskey.

I have a Radical Arms upper with a 30" barrel and 1 in 10" rifling twist, It is quite accurate with good ammo. I don't think it could out-shoot a CZ Bolt-rifle unless it was shooting cheap Rusky ammo. Steel-case Wolf and Tula is not totally reliable in my gun. Imported berdan-primed ammo needs a bit more of a hit to fire, and I get a failure to fire about one in four. They do fire on the second hit, but accuracy is not very good. The 7.62X39 cartridge is easy and cheap to reload. It even shoots 150 grain cast bullets well if I keep velocities down around 1800 fps.

I have a windham weaponry SRC in 7.62x39. I have shot 123 and 154 grain ammo thru mine. has been flawless. as far as being accurate. i have a vortex 1x power scope on it. and it shoots just as good as any other rifle with iron scopes 250 yards.

I personally wouldn't get one except to shoot cheap steel case ammo. The whole point of it for me is to have a rifle that is cheap to plink without having to bother with the brass flying in the weeds or brass catcher hanging off the side. If I had to reload for it I would get something else, blackout or grendel or something.

I can regularly get MOA with brass cased ammo. Not much better, but certainly adequate for the ranges at which the chambering is useful.

Any problems shooting steel cased Russian junk ammo?
Yes - the standard AR firing pin doesn't provide enough protrusion to reliabily light off most steel cased ammo (which use deeper primer pockets). Either get an 7.62x39 specific AR firing pin or bolt, if you wanna shoot the steel cased stuff. Other than that - no issues to report.

Any problems shooting 154 grain SP ammo?
None.

What is the make and model of your AR?
All homebuilts.

Rbernie. The windham weaponry has a special firing pin that is longer then most to pierce the surplus russian stuff. Thats all i shoot thru mine. Never had a problem. And that thing will digest any ammo i stuff in the mag. Even the ppu round nose stuff.

I bought an enhanced firing pin and wolff extra power hammer spring to put in mine when I built it. All the rest of the parts arrived first so I shot it with the normal firing pin and spring and did not have any light fires with about 60 rounds of wolf. When the other parts came I put the enhanced firing pin in and left the wolff hammer spring in the drawer. I've never had a light primer strike.

Some good info above. I have a Radical arms 10.5" upper. I've been trying to fine tune my loads for it. It has a very tight chamber, so I don't know how it will due with the cheap stuff. I'll have to try some rounds out.
I didn't buy it for the cheap steel stuff, just because I wanted an AR upper in x39. For mags, I'm using the C Products 20 rounders. They are working fine.

I'm using a cheap AR Stoner 7.62x39 16" upper. Its a 2.5 MOA gun with the wolf 125 SP steel case I've shot. With the Federal Fusion load its a solid 1 1/2 moa or slightly better any day I shoot it. The Fusion load is hands down the best deer medicine available for a factory load.

My most accurate load is 27.3 grains of CFE BLK and a 135 grain FTX (.308 diameter) 2280fps. It will outshoot me any day and will touch bullet holes at 100yds. Plan on getting a deer with that one next season.

Mine are hot!

Bear Creek Arsonal 11.5" pistol, blade brace, halo
Bear Creek Arsonal 16" BB, red dot

Mine eat anything but I primarily use Tula steel and the pistol has had a known 3k through it since I bought it used. I just replaced gas rings yesterday. I've used brass and, naturally, collect it and easily reloads and functions flawlessly. Most of my reloads, since I don't have a whole lot of brass, are on their 3rd/4th/? reloading. AR's are very gentle with brass whereas AK's aim for poison ivy/multiflora/mud & water (at least 10 yards away) and gives your brass an attitude on the way out. Since I only shoot targets, cheap works for me.

I built mine several years ago now and I've been impressed with it. I free floated a Sota arms barrel and have fed her nothing but steel case. She likes the 8m3 ammo the best, followed by the Brown Bear HP then 125 gr SP. Accuracy at 100 yards averages 1.5. Russian ammo will make a tight group but always has that flyer to make it 1.5. My rifle is particular, other russian brands shoot far larger groups.
What others said about about ignition is right, needs the extended firing pin and a strong hammer spring. I run a Red X pin, SSA-E trigger, C-Products Defense mags and have never had a misfire with this setup.

Here is a 10 round 100 yard target I shot with the 8m3. A few strayed out of the sweet spot, some due to barrel heat and some due to that is how russian ammo shoots. Still plenty good enough for me.

Colt carbine upper on a RRA lower. ~MOA with handloads and a 4x scope. I stick to brass and save the steel for the AK. This group with Hornady 125 SST bullets over 26.5gr A1680...

Another tip for the fellow AR47ers. My magazines didn't come until after I had the gun finished but i found that you could load about 3 or 4 7.62's in a regular 556 P mag and they would feed and function fine. Any more than that and the mags bind up. Just thought I would throw that out there in case you happen to find yourself without a 7.62 specific mag.

He is mine. I just put a new forend on it the other day to try, not sure if I like it yet
