No pictures as I have not as of yet made this purchase. Rifle is as stated in the title, a 1966 Romanian pm md. 63, fixed stock, palm swell for-end (old school for a Romy), no "dongle", AK variant. It is built on a NoDak spud receiver and has a chrome lined barrel. Wood is a medium brown with a slight reddish tone with no significant cracks. This being an "old" one, the pistol grip is also wood. Receiver has the scope rail, which I personally like but believe it would be incorrect for a 1966 year model.

Seller is asking $750 for the rifle. Based upon the info given...thoughts, opinions? I just recently purchased a truck gun type AK to go along with a few nice ones I own, so I really don't need another right now. However, you know the saying..."I have more than I need, just not near as many as I want".

So. Does anyone have any experience with these old Romanian rifles?

May or may not be fair.

It's a kit build. Did he build it, did someone else build it, or is it a commercial build? Are there any other receiver markings?

Kit builds can be a gamble depending on quality of assembly. If it was assembled by an individual instead of commercially, you will have to look the rifle over very carefully. Note the quality of refinishing, the straightness of assembly, riveting quality, etc.

Rifle was built by NGS (Northwest Gun Supply), a small semi-custom builder out of Idaho. Receiver has what I believe to be proper Romanian markings. (I base this only upon what pictures of old Romanian AKs show to be online).

I work out of town and commute back home on weekends. Anyhow when I got back home I contacted seller again in order to view this rifle. All matching numbers on this build. The CL barrel is Cugir and less than a year old. Seller still has original AoA melonite barrel also. Thanks for the advice JD, I read the google reviews also and had some questions...Anyhow I contacted the owner of NGS. Seemed like stand up guy. Was willing to honor the "limited lifetime warranty" on this build. Of course lifetime only means as long as someone lives or is in business. NGS has been around since 2012, 6 years, could be worse, could be better.

I did give the seller a $100 deposit to hold the rifle for a few (5) days. If I do not buy...I'll be out $100. Not great but not the worse thing to ever happen. My gut tells me to just go ahead and buy the damn thing. However, that's one reason I am posting about this on this forum. How many times do you read...Hey guys, what do you think about this rifle? Only to read that they have already purchased it and just want to hear ataboys?

Anyhow. Cool gun, newish Cugir barrel, 1966 wooden Romy. $750? Opinions are just that, I realize. However, I would not be posting (it's kinda rare anymore) if I did not value your opinions.

If you gave a non-refundable deposit, sounds like you've already made up your mind.

If it's a decent build, you should always be able to get your money back.

Romanians are my favorite AKM. So, to break it down. A G kit (Romanian Guard/Reserve issued AKM), the most common Romanian kit runs $500 ish these days. The NDS01 receiver is roughly $100. Build pieces, rivets, FCG about $50. Not sure about labor for build, but let's say $100-$150 for a reputable, known, experienced builder to put it together correctly. So the sum is in the area of $750.

Now the other side of the coin. The commercial, Romanian version is the WASR 10/63. The current or regular WASR 10's are not the same as the 10/63 that was built from real, arsenal-accepted, issued PM Md 63's. (Triangle with arrow or plain triangle arsenal stamp) Try to price one of those out. They are mostly unobtainable these days.

Since kits, which most AK's in the US are made from anyway except for the crappy USA made ones can't have the original barrels due to improt restrictions, the prices are going up for anything with an original, CHF CL barrel (look for journal stampings on the barrel to tell if it is a real one one or a copy). If you really want a mostly origininal AKM from a ComBlock country, the one you looking at sounds like a good way to go.
