They do indeed look quit good, are they cut away enough for speed loaders? The loader cut looks small compared to the grip size.

Nice... sure would like a pic from the rear strap. I'm shy in these because they seem to be too thin.

Altmonts, in general, dont have enough width and too many acute angles for comfort in my hands.

I got a set of these two weeks ago for an N-frame. They're pretty good but could be a little thicker at the top. They only have a clear finish so I'm thinking about stripping them down, adding a light stain and doing a TruOil finish.

The new grips look nice and as you say they are a little bit more hand filling than the original factory stocks.

Great looking Model 15 too!

I think the Model 15 is about my favorite S&W, and that one is a really nice example. The Altamont grips look great. Well done.

I've got a set on my Model 57. They feel good to me, but as others have said, they might be a little thin if you shoot magnum loads, but I don't so that doesn't matter. I handload all my 41 ammo and the only thing "41 Magnum" about them is the head stamp on the case.

Any flaws in the gun, or the grips is a result of funky lighting.

You're correct that the recess is too small for a speed loader. I believe those aren't intended to be speed loader recesses, but are to provide clearance for ejecting spent rounds with the ejector rod.

I'm guessing that the company is making grips that are suggestive of the old S&W K frame diamond targets. Those grips had no recesses until the mid fifties. By that time, customers were complaining that ejecting rounds would scar the grips or that the grips might inhibit ejecting spent casings, so S&W put the recesses on diamond targets. Much later, they went to a speed loader style recess, which completely removed a portion of the grip so that the frame was visible.

I agree that the grips look good, as does the gun. Combat Masterpieces (15's) are my favorite. I have four model and pre-model 15's: one with non recessed diamond targets and one with ejector recessed diamond targets.

Thank you all for the kind words, good questions, and for sharing your own pictures of this fine S&W model.

I regretted selling the first model 15 I owned years ago and was blessed to replace it with this one; that mistake will not be repeated.

Now I'm looking over my model 14, "Altimont coke-bottles in your future?" I ask, she hasn't replied yet, I think she's jealous :)

951ACB8D-E444-4587-A2FB-6AAA7EDC4F34.jpeg I’m pretty partial to S&W targets. No offense, but those Altamonts look pretty plain.
It would have to be something special like stag or ivory to get me to use anything but S&W wood grips.

Really wanted grips with a tad more meat on them than original service grips. These seem to fit the bill nicely, nice enough for a quick share :) did about the same thing years gone by, 70s when it was a issued duty weapon.when they went to .357 didn't buy it and regretted it. About eight years ago bought one in mint condition from a sheriff's dept/ prison division. Love it, smooth as a frogs hair

Well, S&W buys grips from Altamont, probably other companies as well. The thing about Altamont is you get a good product for a reasonable price. Not a stellar product, but a lot more bang for your buck than you get with a number of other makers. Can you get MUCH nicer grips, yes. Can you get MUCH nicer grips without doubling or tripling the price tag, I think not. My 30-1 wears Altamont Altai grips, and if I ever buy grips for other guns I will start searching at Altamont.

And yes those do look a bit plain, but with a gloss finish that walnut will start to pop. It’s a personal taste kinda thing. As nice as your target grips are, I wouldn’t have that particular set. I hate when wood colors transition so distinctly. I know there’s nothing “wrong” but my tastes are for deep grain and one base color.

Looks good. Eagle Grips makes a Coke bottle reproduction also that looks a lot like the original design.

Enjoy that Smith. Old guns feel new again when they get new shoes.

I do like that my grips have the speed loader cut. My Model 15 has served, and will again serve, as a home defense gun. It is loaded right now, in its paddle holster with two safariland speedloaders.
