On the DC Circuit he wrote a dissenting opinion that extended Heller to semiauto rifles.

If Semi auto rifles are protected,because Semi auto pistols are protected,since they are both"In Common Use"then Standard Capacity magazines must be protected,since that is what comes with the VAST majority of semi auto rifles and pistols.

True and we all know that judges and justices can make all sorts of crazy rulings. Hence why it’s so important for this and future justices to be consistent and to be true to the Constitution.

I agree with carpboy IF he’s approved and IF he’s consistent then it looks good for us.

I’d love to see the magazine limits found to be UnConstitutional, I’d also like to have DC and other conceal carry laws to be ruled UnConstitutional . Ideally Constitutional carry would be great but forcing all states to honor another states conceal carry permit would be what I’d like to see the SC achieve by ruling that states that don’t give permits to non residents as an infringement to our right to bear arms.

I am glade we elected a Republican for this very reason , to protect our Constitution that the liberals want to destroy and turn our country into communist / socialist country . Like the Soviet Union said , they would take our country without even firing a shot . This nomination and his past nomination has really slowed that prediction down for many years to come , hopefully and protects our second amendment rights .

Apparently GOA likes him and they are pretty particular about judges.

That’s a great sign, but until a case is heard and he has a positive impact all we can do is hope and pray.

Personally, I’m still holding my breath on Gorsuch on 2nd Amendment issues as he hasn’t be involved in a 2nd Amendment case on the high court yet.

That said, I’m not worried, just hopefully optimistic.

This will be quite the confirmation process. Expect tears from Schumer. Expect DiFi to tremble and spit a lot.

Everything I have read about him makes him look like a strong pro-2A pick. So he will be declared the Devil by the media.

He will be confirmed. But one more Justice is needed for a solid pro-2A majority. After that, the floodgates of cases can be opened. For starters, I would like to see a ruling that AWB's and mag cap limits are unconstitutional. Then they can look into the constitutionality of the Hughes Amendment. It seems to me that the flat prohibition of any particular class of weapon -- particularly one with military application -- would not withstand originalist constitutional scrutiny.

Hopefully this comment is not too political.

With Kennedy's retirement Chief Justice Roberts will most likely become the swing vote. Roberts has shown he can be more interested in protecting the Institution of The Supreme Court rather than following a Conservative limited view of the Constitution with his decision with Obamacare.

Justice Kennedy gave Roberts cover to be Conservative as Kennedy was the deciding vote. How strong of a supporter of the 2A Roberts will be should be a concern to all gun owners.

Yeah, it’s entertaining. I’ll have to admit being more of a Libertarian myself and it’s been a long time since I watched Liberal news outlets but had to turn on a few this morning just for fun.

Like watching a kid throw a tantrum. It shouldn’t make you smile but sometimes it does.

Except there are several states that do not require having a concealed weapons license; so how do those folks get to carry in other states?

Exactly. I'm not one of Trump's biggest fans, but it would have been catastrophic of a Democrat had been the one to name the last two Supreme Court justices.

If I recall correctly there is a Kavanaugh dissent someplace in which he states his opinion that as an appellate judge he would have remanded the magazine capacity question to the district court for factfinding on whether the proposed restrictions of magazine capacity would violate the "common use" test from Heller vis-a-vis Miller.

I was not so much a fan of Trump as I knew the alternative was pure evil. Trump has turned out to be somewhat better than I had thought. A moderate surprise to me.

Personally I am hoping for judges that rule as the constitution actually says and not something made up. I also hope that the newer judges are inclined to protect us from government as opposed to extending government power as has been happening the last 150 years or so. We need judges that are willing to stand up and shut down government excess on all of the BOR, not just the 2nd. And without creating rights out of thin air that don't exist and never did.

all of the finalists had their merit. I honestly expected a female to be the pick just to grab a bit more of the “relatable” support, and try to shake off some of the sexist mess that is still being tossed around. It would also be nice in the fact that females typically live a few years longer, but that’s not the case this time. We can hope for one more retirement, but I don’t think anybody actually expects it to happen unless it’s a conservative Justice falling on his sword to make room for a younger, healthier person to take the bench...and these folks just don’t do that.
