.38spl/.357mag Lever gun shooters-bullet choice?

I'll admit that it has been a while since I shot my Marlin 1894 in 357 Magnum. What I remember, semi wadcutters feed ok but you have cycle the action carefully, maybe even back it up a tiny bit to get the cartridge to feed. 357 Magnum cartridges feed better than 38 Special cases when SWC bullets are loaded. You just do not rush the feeding of the cartridge if an SWC bullet is loaded.

Rounded side bullets and most jacketed style bullets generally feed without issue.

I recently got a current production Winchester 1873 chambered in 357 Magnum. I have not shot it yet and will be curious how it handles various bullets.

My Marlin 1894 has micro groove rifling and it prefers jacketed bullets. Rifles with conventional rifling will shoot cast bullets quite well.

In any lever gun I have had, provided everything is as it should be, there is little problem feeding SWC. The big flat nosed and full wad cutter stuff can be iffy though. I do know the OAL of the round plays a huge role in how well it will feed in any lever action I have played with. Different bullet styles sometimes take a little trial and error to get there if your rifle is picky about it.

What works in a Marlin 1894 may be different than the OP's Rossi '92. There are also Marlins and then Remlins. It seems well established though that SWC bullets are counter to the general design of a repeater rifle.

You are correct, SWC bullets can have a problem feeding in a levergun. That's why I linked to the bullets specifically designed for leverguns.
