Probably not unlike others, I had a lot of time to stare at the detail of my deer rifle (M70 WE) awaiting the visual of a shootable deer. I had lots of idle time to give it a detailed once-over and what I saw was fascinating to me - especially in a factory rifle. Great detail to machining, fit and finish - a very impressive “polished” look both inside (what I could see) and out - impressive attention to even minute areas - machining is superb. I shot some cheap WW white box thru it initially with 1” results at 100 yards. I developed an accuracy load (.308) with reloading components I already had - it will now shoot 1/2 to 3/4” 100 yard groups consistently - not bad at all. In summary, not the cheapest factory rifle on the market but impressive to an anal guy like me - well worth my money - I am really liking this rifle even more.

Did you mean EW, (Extreme Weather)? Yes they are nice rifles. I have one in 308 that I've not found a factory of handload that it doesn't shoot well. 1/2-3/4" three shot groups are the norm with stuff it likes and not much over 1" for anything else.

Mine is an early production rifle made shortly after Winchester moved to the South Carolina FN factory. I did replace the stock on mine with a McMillan Edge. It took about 1/2 lb off the weight and I think it looks and feels better.

I felt the same way while wiling away the hours 20' up a tree admiring my Marlin (JM) 336 this past week. Near perfect machining of a solid block of steel, blueing without a fault, action smooth and precise, wood to metal matched up perfectly.
Its not my most expensive rifle but I feel a kinship with it as my long time hunting companion. A perfectly suited instrument for its intended purpose. What a wonderful life.

Yes jmr40, I should have stated “Extreme Weather” which is the given name of the model before I screwed it up. It is s great production piece for the money (IMHO). As DDDWho said it best - what a wonderful life (I have) and I am very fortunate to own this rifle. Now I need for a less than cautious deer to walk near me so as I can try the thing out.
