The rifle leaning against the barbed wire fence reminded me of when we used to hunt birds with waxed-paper shells. We stopped to talk for a few minutes and my buddy leaned his shotgun against an electric fence and we talked for a bit. A few minutes later, I spied smoke spiraling out of his barrel, so we grabbed the gun before it went off. Must have been quite a "hot" electric fence, the kind that burns grass that grows up to it.State hunting regulations don't offer much in the way of large game rifle hunting, been limited to black powder for years. First year production Knight MK85 with Swarovski glass gets used the most.
That will change this year, start using an AR15 in 450 Bushmaster. Will let you know how it goes.
Deep Snow.....or short fence post? You decide.

I don't know yet. Strange as it may sound, I just sold my "go to" hunting rifle that served me well for over 20 years: a Model Seven in .308. Maybe I'll regret it, but I don't think so. I replaced it with a semi-custom Remington 700 Ti in .260 Ackley. Newly scoped it weighs in at 6 lb 5 oz. I haven't hunted it yet, but since I don't have the .308 any more, it will be the one next time I get out. No idea when that will be, though; I haven't hunted since moving to Texas ...

I just finished dovetailing in a new set of sights for an upcoming competition in Tennessee.
The sights are copied from Mariano Modena 's Hawken. View attachment 829598
She's pretty crude. We are certain that it has been converted from flintlock to percussion. Hammer Mark's are clearly visible on the bottom half of the barrel(hidden under the full stock). I had to have about three inches cut off the breech end due to erosion...and a breech plug and new tang made. This rifle was in a lamp stand in my parents house since I was a boy.Could you post more pics with the stock being more visible? That's a cool gun!

It shoots very nice. How does it shoot?
Longer shots and possibly larger game up to elk (but not my favorite Elk gun) this Harry Lawson Custom 600 Remington .308 has taken them to 340 yards and is so light and fun to carry around. The brake takes away the recoil of this 6.5 pound rifle and the many customized action features including a 1.5# trigger make it my favorite for mountains and big deer or caribou ext over the years. I did not take it to Africa tho used a .375 for that which is also my favorite elk rifle . I also have a favorite 1956 Mannlicher Schoenauer .243 Win carbine for hunting the small local blacktail and coyotes on local ranches when invited. It has a 3-18 Swavoroski on it lately Here is the Lawson .308 which now wears a Zeiss 42mm HD5 2-10x which I bought for $549 at Natchez !
