Ok guys let’s have some fun you are building a 6.5 Grendel Modern Sporting Rifle for hunting deer in the Midwest longest shot is going to be 300 yards maximum

What would yours look like and what parts would you use I’ll chime in here in a bit but for now I wanna see what y’all say!

Ordered my upper from Sanders Armory last night. 20" heavy, fluted Faxon barrel. I'm going to drop it on a lower with a Velocity 3 lb trigger and Magpul PRS Gen3 stock. I'm gonna top it with a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 that I have laying around.

For your purposes, i'd probably go with the same barrel, but in an 18" length. I'd also go with a carbine length buffer tube and a lighter carbine stock.

This is what mine looks like, built this one, selling it to a motivated buyer, likely build another like it within the year. Only thing I would change is the optic (Viper HSLR with FFP XLR is MOA - gotta get mrad).

20" barrel National Match profile barrel, AGB, 18" handguard, linear compensator, Geissele two stage trigger, First Focal Plane optic with a top end over 20x, Luth-AR or PRS, Ergo Deluxe rubber... Light enough to go hunting, long and steady enough to go long.

I have a Hardened Arms 20" upper, on a Ruger Elite lower. A Mueller 8x25-44AO sits in an Aero mount. Its very accurate. I need to stretch out the distance and see what it can do.

I used an Aero Precision M4E1 builders kit (love these, very simple build), Odin Works 20" barrel/BCG/Gas system (no experience with these, but MOA Guarantee and fit and finish look very promising),Geissele SSA-E trigger, Magpul grip and stock. Current optics setup is an Aero lightweight mount and Leupold 3-18x44 firedot scope.

Hope to test fire it this weekend! Plan for this is an all around hunter for medium to longer ranges (whitetail/hogs/coyotes).

Mine is a budget build. Anderson lower, Anderson sport upper. GuntecUSA reciever extension, surplus A1 buttstock. Anderson LPK, AR Stoner enhanced trigger. AR Stoner BGG.MAS Defense extended charging handle. AR Stoner 20" heavy fluted barrel. Anderson tube and block. Delta Team Tactical 19 1/4" free float handguard. AR Stoner muzzle break. Millet scope mount and Centerpoint 4x12 Scope.

If I could do it all over again the only thing I would change would be to go with a 24" barrel. The 6.5 Grendel really needs it.

I really did that setup, I assume it's set up as a hog rig?

Thanks, it is, but if you change out the scope it could just as easily be a deer rifle. I have taken hogs out to 372 yards with this setup (GPS said it was 372, LOL).

I am really pleased with the accuracy of the ARP barrel.

The current configuration as shown includes a Trijicon IR Hunter MKIII 4.5-36x60, 640 resolution thermal optic, DVR to record hunts, and the stock pouch holds an external battery, spare rubber gloves, etc. Of course, you don't need thermal for deer hunting, but it can be used in daylight for those states that allow thermal optics, but it would not be as ideal as a good daylight scope for deer.

How happy are you with that Trijicon unit? We are currently running Nivisys thermals and I like them, but I have been very intrigued by the Trijicon since they came out.
