Has anyone tried one of the aftermarket Dillon machined toolheads that are available on eBay?

A bit cheaper than the DP cast tool heads... just wondering if they are any good, if the holes are properly aligned, etc... Any problems?

Thanks!!

Can't help with the name but there is at least 1 out there maybe not cheaper but is a much tighter fit and is held in place with bolts to keep it from shifting up, down, or sideways. It seems to me that it is somewhat of an inconvenience when having to remove powder from the top of the powder tube/dispenser. I'm sure that a search will dig it up. Used by a lot of precision re-loaders for alignment & OAL control.

There is also 1 (aftermarket) out there which is designed for the dies to be floating so as to let the bullet sort of self locate so to speak. I've seen both of these models/designs discussed on 1911Forum & Bullseye-L-Forum.

Ignorant metallurgical (thanks spell check) question...is the aluminum strong enough to handle everything the press does? Just asking because, you know, my rock chucker broke in half a month ago... I only do straight walled pistol cartridges on my 550B.

In short, yes. Are you wanting to swage bullets or size down ultra mags or something?

Yes, the press itself is aluminum as are the tool heads.

My favorite tool heads for the Dillon’s are the now no longer made GSI tool heads.

I would prefer the toolheads to be 7075 rather than 6061, but I guess performance in the field demonstrates that 6061 is more than adequate for the job. Then again, a Dillon press is not the proper tool for the job if you're trying to swage anything or do anything that requires you to really put the gronk on the press handle.

I just had a great experience with JoFer. Their web site did not transfer my state from my billing address to my shipping address. I attempted to call the owner. He was away from his phone but called me back to let me know that they were already aware of the issue.
