While at Home Despot today I stumbled across a grabber tool that's long enough I don't have to bend over while using it to pick up brass.

I'm 6'3".

So if you've been looking for a longer tool check HD.

I'll get the model number off the package and post it.

Unger Nifty grabber. 4 feet with a squeeze trigger, no pistol grip.

I like Holt’s nut wizard and a 5 gallon bucket with a bent wire handle quite a bit and you can pick up certain brass while leaving other stuff behind.

The bag-a-nut is a lot faster if you have flat smooth ground though.

Seems like a few are capable of generating brass picker uppers...

Would be a LOT cheaper just to go pick up a day laborer every time you shoot and drop them back off after they picked up all the brass though.

I’m not sure that even the Government could come up with a more expensive method to pick up brass than children.

Oh so true.... :)

Hey,
my parents had me solely to carry on the family name.......and put up hay, feed hay, plant tobacco, hoe tobacco, sucker tobacco/cut/spud/hang tobacco, grade tobacco, tend a garden, mow the 10 acre lawn, plant and pick pole beans, and tip and roll pine roping. I'd have been elated to hunt "those shiney things" an hour a week. Lol

Oh. And breaking beans.....I hated breaking and stringing a bunch of dang beans. I never even ate beans. Lol

But yeah buying brass or even loaded ammo would be much cheaper.

But to be on point my plant used to order those in 3-4 and 6 foot lengths. I think Grainger was our source.

That's the one! ... Home Depot
Another vote for Unger Professional Nifty Nabber.

I have two bought from Home Depot and they sell for less than Amazon. They come in 36" and 48". I am 5'8" and 36" grabber works well for me. If you are taller, 48" one will be better - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Unger-4...PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-100353536-_-205325539-_-N

I tried other grabbers but they weren't as good. Unger has rubber over metal jaws and built "professional" grade and I have put them through tough test of grabbing all kinds of things, even heavy objects and they keep working well.

but can it pick up brass?
It will grab even 22LR brass. Before you buy, close the grabber to make sure the tips of jaws line up nice (This goes for buying any grabber).

My "kids" are 37 and 35. My only grandchild is not quite a year old. They live over 2000 miles away.

I use the Nut Wizard tool to pick up most brass. $30 from ACE hardware. But it's nice having a grabber for stuff the Wizard can't pick up.

I've also got a piece of broom handle with a L screw in it to dig them out of the ground.

It really pains me to see usable brass laying on the ground.

I consider myself and others I shoot with "volunteer recycling crew" as I not only pick up brass but other "trash" people use for targets and leave behind after shooting to keep my shooting area spotless (There are posted signs against trash dumping and County workers have cleaned these areas in the past). The Unger grabber makes trash collection easier. (In fact, I do believe County road crews use Unger grabbers)

I come back from shooting with way more brass and trash in the truck bed to go into the trash can. I am planning to sort brass calibers I don't reload to PIF on THR. And most people who shoot at my shooting spots use factory new ammo. :D

Lots of methods can’t get them out of the cracks in blackland soil. I built this contraption to stop by and suck up all the “honey holes” the lazy brass whores left behind.

Brass would fall out into the buckets and dirt/grass would pass through.

I've had one of those "nifty grabbers" for some years now, but find it faster to just bend over. But when my back hurts, yeah, it works and is precise.
So flexible, you can pick-up a dime.......I mean spent 22.:)
Gotta get one of those rolling cages someday though.

I'll have to check one of those things out. Its getting to the point that it wears me out to pick up a couple of boxes on 9mm anymore. Or much of anything else!

What was the price at Home Depot?
$19.97 for 36" grabber - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Unger-36-in-Nifty-Nabber-Trash-Picker-Grabber-92134/100353536

$23.20 for 48" grabber - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Unger-4...PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-100353536-_-205325539-_-N

What I found helps too is to put a pan or flat container/box on the ground so you make smaller movements picking up brass by moving it side-to-side and dropping off the brass instead of making a swing movement up-and-down to a bucket. And when the pan/flat container is full, dump in the bucket and continue.

Thank BDS; gonna have to try one. I have one of the cheap things with rubber cups that I use to pick up trash along my frontage. Can never figure why folks that live just over the road a ways will throw their trash out on the road! Ha

I just put the bucket on the ground. I use a 2.5 gallon bucket though.
