I just ordered two suppressors. One for my 45acp a DeadAir Ghost M and plenty of extra wipes.

And for my Baretta 92FS & Baretta Cx4 storm a DeadAir Oddessa-9

Lets discuss the 9mm. I have some Rainier RN 147 grain. I also have 100 168gr RN as well. So my questions.

1. Whats the best powder to use for least amount of noise.

2. Hypothetically, assume same powder used. If i make a load for the 147grain to achieve 900fps and a load to make thr 168g go 900fps. Which round will be the quietest? The 168 or 147? If there is a difference would it be noticeable?

3. If i make a load so whichever bullet goes 900fps and another load to make the same bullet go 800fps will the slower bullet be quieter? And would the difference be noticeable?

4. For those who handload 9mm for use with a supressor. What do you use? Powder, bullet weight

Now for the 45acp. Is 230grain loaded to go 850fps workable for the Ghost-M or should i load a 250grain to go 750fps?

Ideas? Suggestions? Thoughts?
I do realize i have some time to work on this because it will be next year before i get to enjoy my nee suppressors

Subsonic is subsonic. You won't get any appreciable noise reduction once the bullet is pushed below supersonic. Powder doesn't matter unless you are shooting a blowback action. Even then, your biggest issue is making sure your gun(s) still cycle properly.

I wouldn't overthink this.

I can tell the difference between powders in both report and how dirty a suppressed firearm will get.
If the plated 147’s are round nose, 3.1 of N310 or 3.2 of N320 @1.160” OAL are my favorites.

Just shoot for 950 or lower. That will keep you subsonic. I use TiteGroup, but it runs hot, so may not be best for your case. Pretty much any faster burning powder paired up with a heavier bullet should get the job done with 147s or 230s.

N320 loads are often a little quieter unsurpressed than other powders loaded to the same PF. Stands to reason they'd be comparatively quiet with a suppressor.

N320 or N340 work well for me in 9mm suppresses. Clean and quiet.

I don’t know think you’d be able to distinguish much of a difference between slight variations in FPS or weight.

I’m not sure how well loading 168 grain bullet will work in a regular 9mm case. That base of the bullet is going to be squished down to match the internal taper of the case and create an undersized bullet.

Unless the particular gun has a long throat and mag length permits loading long.

I use 147 gr MBC coated & HS-6 for my subsonic 9mm loads. Beretta 92 host, no recoil booster, cycles fine, quiet.

Very true, but that really limits the appeal of the using a round like 9mm for most people. I have had throats reamed on my Glock 17 threaded barrel to make it easier and for a better transition for my 140 to 147 grain bullets I cast and size to .358.

Personally I have no desire to stuff a 168 grain bullet into a 9mm case and I’m willing to bet most people who try are going to run into a variety of issues including poor accuracy, POI shift, functional issues with load data, small variations in case capacity and powder drop tolerances all working against you in what’s a small high pressure cartridges. None of that is insurmountable but it seems like a lot of work and I’m not sure you’ll ever get any benefit out of it.

Running suppressed in 9mm is probably the easiest handgun cartridge available. Even the majority of load data for 124 bullets is subsonic in normal barrels. Unless you’re running loads approaching max you’ll be subsonic. Anything heavier will be subsonic unless you’re really pushing it.

3.0 gr Titegroup with 147 gr RN polycoated bullets at 1.14 COL, WSP primers = 930 fps from my suppressed M&P 9 with 4.75" barrel (Octane 9).

Also, 3.3 gr of Accurate #2 works well = 940 fps

Be wary of shooting uncoated lead bullets though a suppressor. You can get a tremendous amount of lead buildup on the baffles.

Lubed lead bullets will definitely cause a very dirty suppressor. Coated lead is the way to go if using a lead bullet.

Real nice place to shoot there.

If your loading your own...why are you using 147's? I'm running Berry's 124's through 5 different guns with no problems (Glock, HK, S&W, Sig and M11/9)...suppressor is Octane 9HD

For me because the 147gr MBC coated look vastly different than any other 9mm I load. At a glance, I know if it's a 115gr range load or 147gr subsonic. Not a big deal, but keeps it simple for me.

Also, since I run direct thread & no Nielsen device/recoil booster, I want a full power load & get that with 147 gr. Could probably do +p 147gr & stay subsonic even.....
