I am looking for a 22 LR rifle for use against small varmints such as armadillos, squirrels, possums, etc, that are causing a variet of problems on my farm. I have a Winchester 9422 lever action that I have used for this, but the sights on it keep getting smaller and fuzzier as I get older, and I am thinking I may want to switch to something with an illuminated scope.
Ranges are 50 yards or so. I guess its concievable I might want to shoot an armadillo a little further out, but probably never over 75 yards.
I am thinking I want a low power illuminated scope, maybe 1-4x.
I have shot Ruger 10/22s, and they seem functional, but the trigger is pretty heavy and I don't want to spend the money to swap out the trigger.
I am thinking of a Ruger American.
What are your thoughts on the Ruger American in 22 LR, and what other good choices are there?
