Screw needed for rear sight

I have a Colt 1911 Government Model 45acp. The screw seems have fallen out from the top of the rear sight.

It appears that what you need is an Allen head set screw fixed sight locking screw.
Most any well equipped hardware store will have Allen head set screws.
Most good hardware stores will have a thread checker so you can determine what size you need.

Just buy a shorter size, and if necessary grind or stone it to the length you need if it's not short enough.
 
Hate to disagree but that looks like a fixed sight, not adjustable. If so, the set screw is missing which is normally a standard screw pitch, maybe 6-32 or 6-40.

I think you are correct, but it just may be a finer thread still. Like a #6-48, or as you suggested, #6-40. I don't think many hardware stores carry those finer thread gun screws though, at least not around here they don't. Instead of a slotted screw, I'd suggest a torx style screw. They do hold things down a bit better. If you find out what the actual thread pitch and size is, I can send you a torx screw:
