Is it legal to conceal carry a knife over 5.5 inches now in Texas with the recent law changes? I looked over the penal code and it says nothing about concealed carry that I could find.

Yes I have. Texas knife laws are now very liberal.

There are a few places you could not carry the knife the OP asked about.

  • Schools and on any passenger transportation vehicle of a school
  • Polling Places
  • Courthouses
  • Airports past Security Screening (all knives are already prohibited by TSA)
  • Racetracks
  • Within 1,000 feet of the premises where an Execution is being conducted, if posted
  • Sporting Events (high school, collegiate or professional sporting event or interscholastic sporting event)
  • Correctional Facilities
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing Homes
  • Mental Hospitals
  • Amusement Parks
  • Churches, Synagogues and Established Places of Worship.
Everywhere else is legal and there is no blade length prohibition.

Texas has improved SO MUCH since I lived there 50 years ago!

All thanks to years of work in TX by Knife Rights. Knife Rights worked diligently to make TX as free as TN, AZ and NH for knife owners. While AZ and NH went with one pass and TN took two years, Texas took year after year to chip away at the restrictions on law abiding citizens.

2019- Texas Bans on carry of Clubs (including Tomahawks) and possession and carry of Knuckles (including Trench Knives and the like) Repealed.

2017 - Texas Ban on “Illegal Knives” including Bowie Knives, Daggers, Dirks, Stilettos, Poniards, Swords, Spears and Blades over 5.5 inches Repealed

2015 - Texas Knife Law Preemption Enacted repealing dozens of local knife restrictions including #4 and #9 Worst Anti-Knife Cities in the U.S. and preventing any future local restrictions

2013 - Texas Switchblade Ban Repealed
