How many people keep a handgun in their vehicle all the time? I am not talikg about running into the post office or court house and leave it and then come back. But that actually keep a carry gun stashed in their auto 365 days a year.
Any concerns of it being stolen?

Mine is on my belt 365 days a year so no need to leave one in the vehicle. I realize that some folks don't have the luxury of always carrying due to employment or local laws or whatever so I can see why they would keep one close by in a vehicle.

I agree. I can carry 365 myself. I was just curious as to people that have extra weaponary, if they carried one in their auto all the time even if they had one on em.

Except for this morning when I helped with a school election on school grounds, I leave one in my truck 24/7. There are many times when I'm running out quick wearing gym shorts, so having it in the console is a plus. And yes, where I ;live, crime is VERY minimal and limited to a certain neighborhood

I don't have one now, but have definitely thought about a subcompact, like a LCP, that could be easily concealed. Like Bogey's pop-down panel in his Plymouth in The Big Sleep:

I never [unless to go into a restricted area] keep a gun in my car or truck. I know of a Deputy who had his backup taken at a car wash and didn't realize it until it was used later that day in a robbery. He lost his gun and job.

Only time a weapon is in my truck without being on my side is when I'm headed out camping to heavily populated bear country. And then there might be a .44 mag revolver in my duffel bag and/or a 12 gauge in the truck bed (and truck bed is enclosed with a fiberglass tonneau cover) while I run into a store/service station to use the john or pickup a snack. And those times there is still a H&K or Beretta on my belt.

The state agency I worked for had a very specific rule about leaving guns in cars. Never.

Loss of our weapon in that manner was grounds for dismissal. I still follow that rule.

I don't.

Yes.

This is actually one of the most common public service announcements our sheriffs office puts out. They ask us to avoid keeping a gun in your car as they are often stolen and one of the more common ways criminals, at least locally, get guns.

Yes. Glock 19, in a lock box w/ 2 extra mags. Mrs FL NC has a Glock 26 in her emergency backpack locked in her trunk. These are in addition to our CCW handguns.

I used to always leave a pistol in the truck. But then I learned that in TX you are liable if someone 17(?) or younger gets ahold of the gun. Not sure if I read that somewhere or was told in CC class.

About 5 years ago I invested in a Console Vault Now I have peace of mind leaving a plastic gun in there.

No I never leave a gun in a vehicle. To me that is irresponsible. How much trouble is it to take it in/out of you car when you get in and out??
I suppose if your car is in a locked garage at night but my garage is to full of stuff.

I leave the house to run in to town to run errands. I go to the feed store (can carry), go to the Post Office (can't carry, gun is in car), go to the grocery store (can carry), run by the nusing home to see my father-in-law (can't carry, gun is in car), etc. That is why I have handguns in all of my vehicles. And if a person is stupid enough to just keep theirs in the glove box or consoles, they probably deserve to be stolen. All of our vehicles have places where a handgun van be stashed where 99% of people breaking into a car would never think to look.

My daily driver is a 1995 Ford Ranger P/U. The cab is on the small size severely limiting what I can keep in it. For a while I kept a P64 9 x 18 shoved down in the gap between the driver and passenger seat. This gun had a very annoying habit of the slide rusting when kept there. I would clean and a few days later the slide had rust on the same area again. Fortunately it was such a pain in the rear I finally took it out of the truck.

I say fortunately because one night while at work someone broke into my truck and broke the ignition switch trying to steal it. I was puzzled why anyone would want to steal a 20 year old badly beat up old pickup until I learned there was (probably still is) a junk yard racket in Kansas City that was stripping the parts of off old vehicles then scrapping the rest of it.

I know I am going to eventually replace that old truck so I want my next truck or SUV to have a area where I can build a hidden compartment. With a SUV I want to build a false deck in the rear that will allow me to carry a compact long gun such as a AR, a pistol, extra mags and ammo. I saw one that the owner had in a Toyota and you could not tell it was there especially with tinted windows. Just match the carpet and pile some stuff on top.

Never for me.

Regarding the console vault type safes, my friend had his broken into and it was apparently done with a cordless Sawzall. It was in a Red Lobster parking lot at lunch on a Saturday. If you have one of these vaults you can probably realize what was cut and how quick that happened.

The will certainly help and at least buy some time for a typical smash and grab though.

Never. I have a lock box in the car for when I go to areas with enforced no gun rules. Like the court house with a metal detector. Far too many car robberies in my area where thugs get guns from parked cars.
