Hey everyone,

The long and short of the story is I just bought a used Weatherby Mark V ultralight weight in 240 wby magnum. To be honest it was too good of a price to turn down. It came with approx. 180 cases of once fired brass and 2 new boxes of factory ammo...

the rub is it’s in the coyote tan bell Carson stock and it looks as if Stevie wonder installed the sling swivel studs. The stud on the fore end side is at least a heavy 3/32” off center. And with only two threads or so of engagement it even appears they tried to slot the hole for whatever reason unknown.

I know some people would laugh at me about this cosmetic issue but being a machinist by profession if I don’t do something about it. It will gnaw me to the bone.

So, I was thinking of buying some Acraglass gel from Brownells and when I get some time off, go ahead and repair the hole and install the stud on center.

Any body have any suggestions of a better product out there for what I want to do. Or any tips for such task. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

that being said I’m not looking for anyone to tell me not to worry about it and just run with it. If that’s all you have to offer, just go ahead and skip this thread. Thanks.

I think you have a perfectly thought out plan. Acraglass will be stronger than the original stock material. I've repaired several stocks with it and love the stuff. As far as tips, I have a hard time matching colors up on fiberglass repairs like this so I would concentrate on getting the repair itself looking right. Sand it to contour without worrying about the original finish. Drill the hole for the swivel. Then I'd repaint the whole stock so it would be uniform in color and not mismatched around the repair area. I like Duracoat. Others get good results with their favorite spray paint. That is really up to you.

I would cut up some fiber glass cloth and mix it into the accra glass for a bit more strength. I know, it's already got some in it but a little more won't hurt.
