hi i have a howa 1500 in 308 1\10 twist 26inch... right now i have imr 4064 and benchmark, nosler 168 175 and 190s all hpbt on hand.. im trying to reach out to at least 800yrd but am starting at a 100yrds... any tips on how much powder to load with the supplies i have? i still need to buy primers.. i have tried factory 180gr and they shot bad 4 and 5 inch groups at a 100yrd.. i hope to find a hand load that will work tho.. maybe someone can help me before i run out of bullets? PS. as far as factory ammo 150grs have shot the best but still not as good as my 150gr hand loads.. i think my gun just dont like factory ammo..

also my 150gr hand loads brought 3/4 moa out of 5 shots... not sure how good that is considered?

I have 2 Howa 1500s in 30-06 and found they like 150gr either at the low end or at the high end of the Hornady or Lee loading manual, my other 30-06s like a mid load, you might try a hot load about .5gr below max and load them mag length, that should be good for around 3 or 4 hundred yrds farther than that its more rifle specific.

Every rifle is unique in its preferences, but both Savage heavy barrel .308's I load for have shown good results with IMR-4064. MY 24" 10T likes 42.5 gr with the Nosler 168 Custom Competition BTHP, while my son's 26" 12FV prefers 41.7 gr with the Nosler 175 gr version, either the older Costom Competition, or the newer RDF BTHP. Both of these loads are under various maximum charges listed in published manuals and have been safe in our rifles in all temperatures.
