Does anyone have a .308 168 or 165 grain bullet that gives good accuracy in a Howa 1500 30-06? So far the Speer 168 looks promising but I have 6 or 8 left on hand. The Hornady 168 shoots like buckshot.

Midway USA or Graff and Sons have several to pick from. That gun should shoot near anything fine. Good rifle. I figure you can buy a box of this and that to learn what your rifle shoots. Never found a .308 or a 30 06 that wouldn't shoot h4895 and Speer 165 boat tail good to get started.
I've started it so more to examples to follow.

I’ve got one in 308. It really likes the 165 tgk. Also the 178 eldx. As a side note, the 4th one outside the group was one I noted the tip being messed up from being dropped. I wanted to see how it shot.

You will have to just pick a bullet and try it. Different guns like different bullets. I have seen some that offered best accuracy with flat based lighter weight bullets and others that loved heavy for caliber boat tails. My Ruger M77 will shoot a 165 gameking spbt over 43.5 grains of IMR 4064 into an inch and is a fine load for game. Substituting in a 165 Hornady interlock opens the groups up to 3 inches or better. Gold Medal Match ammo, either 168 or 175, does a fuzz over an inch. My gun must just like the Sierra bullets.

Good experimenting. Now bugger another tip and retest .
