After spending a year in Knoxville, TN and not having had time to do anything gun-related, my wife and I finally made NC (near Charlotte) our permanent home. Feral hogs are apparently a big pest around here, so I'm looking at my options.
Initially I wanted a .308 Win semi-auto for plenty of backup firepower, however after looking at my options (potentially finnicky AR-10s, questionable QC/accuracy of affordable M1A's) I'm at a bit of a loss. Still considering an AR-10, specifically the DPMS GII Recon with 16" barrel, but now I'm wondering if I should just stick to the AR-15 platform and build a lighter weight, shorter barreled 6.5 Grendel to go with my other Grendel. It would certainly be a cheaper option, especially if I build my own, but there's still that nagging voice in the back of my head saying I need another .308 Win.
I've heard conflicting reports on the DPMS GII reliability, but they were all from a few years ago. I'm hoping someone here will tell me they've sorted those out and now the rifles are GTG. Any suggestions are welcome!
