Rural, far beyond the beltway, Northern Virginia,
I just received another 4-pk 600rd case of these, this time from Palmetto State Armory. Since the outside box was a bit abused, I removed the 4 boxes and opened one for inspection.

Small primers. <sigh>

So ... I will now start having to segregate my .45acp cases when I begin using the .45acp Black Pack ammo. Peachy.

I also have 3-4 more of these .45acp Black Packs on the shelf, unopened, from last year's Rebate period so I will have more than 600 small-primer cases.

Actually that will make things a bit easier, potentially, since I will eventually have a couple of thousand to use in special loads.

Just mentally making Lemonade. ;)

Means I can shoot both types of primers when there are shortages. I segregate them and keep the small primer loaded and unused for now. Only have 47.

I've got at last 2500 SPP blazer brass 45ACP. All have been reloaded at minimum three times. I had them all loaded up until last weeks range session where were fired 500. Already tumbled and dried and ready to reload... nice not having a primer size change over.

Due to this with my current cartridge selections I can load upwards of 5000 rounds before I'm swapping to LPP for my magnum cartridges

Don't count on different batches from Federal having the same size primers. As I've posted before, I know from personal experience that Federal sells American Eagle 45 Auto ammo with LP and SP primers in identical 100 round boxes. I contacted Federal to ask if there is a way to differentiate between the LP and SP ammo by looking at the box and the answer was "No there is no way to tell the difference."

That’s what you do when life gives you lemons.
I gave up trying to only have one flavor. After sorting and tumbling I used to give the spp’s to my son but now enjoy loading those and taking them to matches where they’re lost anyway.

^^^ That's what I do... save them for times when I expect to lose them.

I guess I have to axe... dismissing the 'inconvenience' of switching primer rams or primer stocking, is there any significant benefit to SPP in all handgun cartridges? I'm talking ballistically.

No, nor is there any benefit to LPP in some and SPP in others. The only real aesthetic consideration is SPP does look kinda funny in .45 ACP and larger cases.

No, SPPs make reloading .45 ACP harder. No one makes a shell holder with a small hole to accommodate the small primer properly. Using the regular one gives me chronic sideways and upside down primers. What a waste.

That right there is something I never considered. Very valid point. Never affected me due to my specific setup but I can see how that could be an issue.

Reloading 45ACP with SPP on a Dillon 550 makes life much easier - no changing the primer feed system to swap between LP and SP. Now, if only 10mm had been made with a SP like it should have been, it'd both be stronger and easier to reload.... :)

This is something I had not dealt with using the rcbs universal hand primer. There is always something....

SP is a flaming PITA, I load LP 45 ACP only. Sorting through is just an unnecessary task that Federal has graced us with. More often than not I see a Federal headstamp it just goes in my scrap brass bucket.
That’s just me in my crotchety old ways.

Blazer is also now in the game. I just sorted my last batch of cases from the range and now I'm the proud owner of 17 blazer sp cases.
