I know what you're thinking. 'Did he fire six shots or only five'? Well to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I kind of lost track myself. But being that this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?'

Well do ya, punk?

Given a choice, which 44 magnum would you choose?

I'm the original owner of the S&W 629 Classic. I just got the Redhawk. One has to go to fund other gun interests....which one to unload..and for how much?

You say that you recently bought the Redhawk. What was it that made you want it? The answer to that question might help you make your decision.

I had a S&W 617 22lr that I never loved and put up for sale/trade. I had zero bites on the 617. I decided to throw up a few trade interests. The Redhawk was one that I was interested in because I had one for a very short while and like 44 magnums. I also have a Taurus 44 magnum that was my Dad's.

I'd ask how hard you intend to be on it relative to loading power and round-count.

High numbers in either category say to hang onto the Ruger.

With me, it would be easy as I'd not abuse the S&W in any case so the Ruger'd be the one to go.

Todd.

If you're not going to push the your loads to the max then the M629 will go thousands of round without problems. Yes if you are going to push the pressure and bullet weights then the Ruger might better suited but I have have over 20,000 rds through several N-frames and the lock-works on a S&W will go a long time before needing service. The S&W fits my needs, my hands, and works for me. YMMV

List both, whichever sells first goes.

but why part with them? Are you looking to flip the money into something else? Personally my preference is overwhelmingly to favor the S&W, but I do find myself looking at 357 redhawks occasionally. Both look great, but for some reason that S&W looks like it got lost in a tire shop for a while.

Take them both out and shoot them back to back and decide which one you like better. Not that many people get the chance to do such a comparison. I spent countless hours trying to decide between a 629 and a Redhawk not having either available to test fire. I would have loved the chance to have both available at the same time to compare.

P.S. I never could decide between a 629 and a Redhawk... so I ended up with a Dan Wesson 744 and have never regretted the decision for a second. lol

It's not quite the same...but I had a 4" 629 that I just couldn't ever shoot well. I traded it on a Super Redhawk last spring and much prefer it. It's completely a personal choice, but I can just shoot the Redhawk better.

I'd go with what everyone in this post has been saying. Go with the one you shoot better. Granted you just bought the Redhawk, it'd be a shame to let this be your second one that'd go so quickly. Maybe you just don't like Redhawks?

If you're going to ask me what I'd do personally, then I'd sell both. Then buy a Colt Anaconda with that money.

I'd try to keep both if at all possible. If not; then I'd have to put quite a few rounds through each one and then decide. I have a 7.5" Redhawk that I really like but when I was looking for a 44 Mag. handgun I could have went either way. Wound up with the Redhawk because I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and it was a good deal.

I never cared for the looks or feel of the RedHawk or SRH over the Smith. But I guess after 23 years the SRH grew on me. At least in 10mm, even though I have a Smith 610.

Redhawk is more durable, but the trigger probably won't ever be as good as the s&w. I have had both, and both needed work at about the same round count, but the ruger can handle a LOT hotter ammo. I like the idea of unscoping one, and if I did that it would probably be the 29. Both are great guns...

I have a scope on my Super Redhawk and it's a great shooter. I know there is always bigger and heavier, but my SR is no slouch in the weight dept. I like rest (or supported) shooting it at distance. It's not a firearm I'm going to go out and pop targets at 5-10 yds. The thing is large and heavy. I load them up hot and take it to 50 yds currently, soon to be 100.

The build of the firearm gives me confidence that it will eat the heavy loads I've been feeding it for quite some time.

Keep the redhawk, it's just the right thing to do. You'll probably get more for the S&W anyway. My reasoning? There is not one thing the 629 can do that the redhawk can not. Conversely there is quite a bit the redhawk will do that would send the 629 running for mommy.
