My new .44 mag - Anaconda

The more I pay for something the more I use it.

Am interested in the new Anaconda. It looks way better than the old one IMHO. Plus one can put an optic on it

629-3 or Anaconda. Eithrr is fine, have had Smiths before. My eyes suck now so optic mandated for hunting.

Which means my old Python will just sit in the safe. EGW does make a reflex base that replaces rear sight, but it needs pinned.

A new .44 mag would be less hassle LOL.
I understand that all new Anacondas are drilled and tapped for optics right off the line.

Thanks Stefan for your review. I too like the Colt. My new Colt King Cobra is very well made. Makes me look forward to getting the other two Snakes Guns.

I revisited this post because I’ve found out about the accuracy. I have some Freedom Munitions .44 240g rounds and they suck. I bought them because they were cheap and available. But I can barely hit the broadside of a barn with them. I mean, I can, but there’s some luck involved. With my current load of 23g of 4227 in a 240 xtp, I’m hitting my 70 yard target at will. To be fair, I ought to try some more well regarded factory rounds.

Glad you're reloading for it now. Once you did that, there's not much point in buying factory ammo any more, unless that's the only way you can get brass. ;)

Last time I saw 44 mag brass on the floor or in the buckets at the range was........never.
I keep mine and once I shoot about 500....I clean and load another batch. Batches of the hot stuff (6 and done) I'm stocked up until.....forever.

I had my Redhawk to the range a month ago. Met a friend and let his friend shoot a couple cylinders through it. I forgot to tell him to save the brass. He threw it downrange and I almost cried.

So how's the rigger in single action mode? I have a new Anaconda and the single action trigger has much too high a pull. Tried another one, same story. Wondered if it's a "lawyer" trigger. On the other hand, I have a vintage Anaconda with a very nice single action trigger.

Not sure I understand what you mean by too high a pull. If you can explain that, I’ll tell you if it does that.

Makes me wonder how the Anacondas SA trigger compares to the new Redhawks. The new Redhawk SA trigger has creep and is the heaviest SA trigger I've ever pulled.

....I was about to click the "buy it now" button and the hair stood up on the back of my neck. I got that warm tingly feeling, and my face felt flushed....you know the feeling....

I clicked the button, a New Colt Anacondas on its way!
I just hope it's double wrapped and double boxed.... wit today's logistics 'n all.

I mean that in single action mode it takes more force than it should to pull the trigger. Too heavy. (Two samples, the one I bought and the one I didn't.) Guess I'll have to attempt measuring it. On account of this I was tempted to buy a trigger gauge but too pricey for a one time use.
As for the Python, can't handle the stainless. if there's any gun that should be blued, it's a Python. Not that I don't like stainless in some other guns.

I don't have a whole lot to compare it to. But I do have a 357 blackhawk. I just went a compared the 2 single action pulls. No question that the blackhawk is lighter. But I don't think I would call the Anaconda heavy. I guess it would be nice if it were a bit lighter. But it hasn't bothered me a bit. And there is virtually no creep. A millimeter if I had to measure.

Not having a trigger scale, I used a fishing scale and some string. My vintage Anaconda in single action breaks at around 4 lbf, I consider this acceptable. My new Anaconda breaks at around 7.5 lbf, too heavy, not really acceptable in a $1500 revolver. Neither shows any creep. The other new Anaconda I tried felt about the same. Other than on this point I like the revolver. I'm not sure how they get the new finish, looks darker, but I like it.

I have no Anaconda to test but from what I understand the Python and Anaconda are identical mechanically, with the obvious exception to the larger frame, cylinder etc. I just tested the trigger pull with my Wheeler scale and single action broke at 5 1/4 lbs the three times that I pulled it. As for double action, it maxed out my 8lb scale but it did break before bottoming out on the stop, so I would guess right around 9lbs.
