USMC Bowie Knife.

It is a kukri pattern, more or less. The kukri is intimately associated with the Nepalese Gurkhas, an ethnic group with a long association with the British Army, though none with the Royal Marines, as far as I know. There is no association of the battle of Belleau Wood with the Gurkhas. Whether there is some reason to associate the battle and the U.S. Marine Corps with a kukri pattern knife, I don't know.

Sorry if it is harsh but it looks like a truly tacky attachment of an import knife to not only the U.S.M.C. but to one of their more storied campaigns in a glorious history.

Shame on them for co-opting the organization and the battle to sell a knife which has not one thing to do with either.

Todd.

There's nothing "correct" to be about it. It is just an import marketed that way.

More kopis than Corps, but POS overall.

Yes, way more kopis than khukuri at that. The USMC has a storied history, the Gurkha regiments are legendary in their own right. Neither group of warriors needs this cross over.

I think someone got confused with one of these: Although US Army issue it seems quite a few found their way to USMC in their involvement in France in WW1 Battle of Belleau Woods

That's more than a little naughty of the Sgt Grit folks if they are trying to pass it off as in any way historical.

Otherwise, it's a jolly big knife. Even Crocodile Dundee would have to call it a knife.

IMHO Sgt. Grit is just another online retailer trying to find a profit wherever they can. To me they're shameless.

The knife, unto itself, is interesting looking.

To me, the sad thing is the packaging has Marine logos all over it, which means it's probably a product licensed by the Marines. Wonder who thought that was a good connection to a historical event?

Military emblems get stolen all the time to promote crap products. It would not surprise me if this was another instance.

what is that design for? looks a little different than other Bowie knives I've seen. is that basically a small one handed battle sword?
