CZ - which one?

I hear you guys...I’ve just never bought a used gun sight unseen, so I was looking for for some experienced folks to help me feel better about the purchase. You’re right...I’m sure it’ll be fine. I’m really particular with breaking a new gun in, and I guess I’m just particular in general.

My guns finally came in. I couldn’t be happier with either. Above is a 2003 cz 452 American in 17hmr.

Below is the 457 scout. I had to remove the sight to get on the scope. Very happy with the wood on both

I’m definitely putting on a scope, so iron sights add no value to me, and I like the aesthetics of the American model. Both options I’m looking at are the American. If I get the 457, I’m leaning toward the 17 HMR for its extended distance, and accuracy. Any reason I shouldn’t? Does anyone here have experience hunting squirrels with a 17 hmr?
You have to be careful with ammo for the .17. It’s a whole lot faster and flatter shooting, but it packs a hellacious wallop for what it is. Shots on squirrels need to be limited to head shots, and not while using ballistic tips which essentially grenade inside of a squirrel. Body shots with a .17 will not leave much meat... and if using the TNT rounds they won’t leave much squirrel.

I have found when mounting a scope on CZs they tend to be very high with CZ rings....you can shoot them but they really never are in the sweet spot for fit....
I like the 22 mag for just a bit more reach and horsepower.....and the 17 really blows up squirrels pretty good if you are going to eat them....

I plan to head shoot them

Should I screw the screws back in, without the front sight, on the scout’s barrel? Seems like it may rust if I don’t. Not sure

also, you guys know much more about wood on these than i do... what do you think? You're not going to hurt my feelings. If you cant tell, this is my first used purchase online...
I like the grain of the wood in the butt and through the pistol grip. It appears quite strong, even though not fancy.
